New Year's Resolutions

It's a new year! I've been thinking about what I want from writing this year, and here are those thoughts:

This Used to be About Dungeons is in extra innings right now, mostly because I felt like it. There's a strong chance that it drops down to a chapter a week instead of the current two chapters a week. It'll go on for as long as I feel like, essentially, though ideally it would make up another book (400K) or half book (200K). I'm not entirely sure about that though. Ideally I would just write faster and build up a backlog on it so it can be two chapters early for patrons, something that I've been meaning to do for a while, but I'm not sure that I can.

Thresholder is set to come out of hiatus soon, partially rewritten, and possibly as just a regular old web serial with a chapter a week schedule or something like that. I think ideally I would keep it "loose" in the spirit of National Novel Writing Month. In theory it's a world-hopping story, so gets compartmentalized in narrative terms, while also allowing me to explore ideas and characters that I might get tired of in a longer setting. Thresholder will be something like two chapters ahead for Early Bird patrons.

Finally, I've been planning a return to Glimwarden. I've been re-writing it, which includes extra chapters at the beginning, some significant changes in character voice, and some plot work. I don't know when it's coming back, but at this point I'm pretty committed to it.

Looking back on last year, it was almost entirely taken up with This Used to be About Dungeons, and I thought output was very good overall, something like 800K words total. The only major story miss for me was the demiplane arc, which I felt went on too long and had some storytelling issues, but I'm hoping to get a chance to fix those with the ebook release, which will be on Kindle Unlimited. I'm not quite itching for green fields, though part of that is because Thresholder is filling that role.

Thanks so much for your support over the past year. It really does mean a lot to me on a personal level. I'm hoping that I'll be able to do more with Patreon over the next year, especially in the way of bonus chapters and extra stuff, but have been struggling with some pretty bad depression and anxiety these last two months, which has prevented plans from materializing so far. This too shall pass, and when it does, I'm hoping half-finished projects will get dusted off.

Edit: Oh yeah, the Worth the Candle exclusion doc will be within the next month or two, it just needs final editing and then a round of AI-generated images.

Comments

happy New Year! I don't think I recall glimwarden, I'll look to see if any old or new versions are around (I prolly started it, but forget due to too many follows). Honestly, I hope you keep doing TUTBAD but only if/as much as it's fun for you. I'll prolly reread it as some pt because there are some things done really nicely.

Excited for a return to glimwarden, I really liked the setting
