No Thresholder this Week + Of Witches and Wizards Preview

Hey, sorry, but there won't be a chapter of Thresholder this week. I got what I'm pretty sure was norovirus, and spent an unpleasant ~36 hours that I'm still recovering from.

In its place, here are two chapters from something that I might be writing once other projects have run their course, (WIP title) Of Witches and Wizards.

Chapter 1

Chapter 2

Synopsis: Of Witches and Wizards is intended to be a relatively slow, unfolding novel about a witch and wizard who both need to find themselves following lives that, until the point the novel starts, have not been quite what they had wanted them to be. Eilert is a wizard, powerful but with a soft demeanor. Hazel is a weary widow with an empty nest, a lazy familiar, and a knack for witchcraft. (This represents all that’s been written of the novel so far, but the overarching plot involves travel by sea to different Themed cities, explorations of how the past marks us, how we need to connect and express ourselves, how we overcome mistakes, and some slow-burn romance.)

This is Patreon-only for now, and there's a chance that I never write it in full, but I have oodles of stuff like this sitting in folders doing nothing, and figured that if I was going to call out sick, it would be nice for there to be something from the archives.

(Feedback would be appreciated, since this is a project that can still be refactored, if you'd like to discuss on Discord there will be a thread in the #earlybirds channel for it.)

If this sample were representative, I'd like it far more that TUTBAD (which is already among my short list of favorites on the site). There's a nice wistfullness to it, and an easygoing vibe from the MC, that I loved. Off to read the second part! woooo!

Just read the first one and it's got a lovely tone and pace to it. MUST. HAVE. MOAR! i disagree completely w/ Lorenzo's concern about too slice of life; that just means a different target audience (which would include me, as I loved it), but TUTBAD was hardly the usual RR "punch punch level up" routine anyway.

I have some conflicting thoughts about Of Witches and Wizards. On one hand, I like the vibe, and your writing is amazing as always. On the other hand...I would be afraid that it might be *too* slice of life. I'm not sure how long I could read a story about 2 characters vibing along like this. The setting is also interesting, but nowhere near the creativity of WTC/TUTBAD. Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed it, and would read more if I could. I just don't know how often I would come back.
