The Spiral of Worlds existed forever, without end or beginning. From it two entities were born - the guardian of order, the Universe, and the dragon of chaos, Vortirus.
Universe and Vortirus are not good and evil, but preservation and stability, even stagnation, and chaos, aka change, development, evolution.
Since the essence of Vortirus is to change and destroy everything, he began to influence the worlds of Spiral.
At the dawn of time, the Universe created from its essence Demiurges to guard the order of things and the Spiral of Worlds.
The Demiurges were incredibly powerful and the nature of the Spiral of Worlds was obedient to their will. But, as parts of the Universe, they did not have full free will, so they could not effectively resist the unpredictable attacks of Vortirus. To keep the eternal dragon of chaos under control, the Universe created new defenders (proto-gods), the Nephilims, from its essence mixed with the stars and ashes of worlds. The Nephilims combined the immortal essence and the material beginning. They began to serve the Universe as an army of order and light.
They were beautiful and powerful creatures. In the Spiral of Worlds they possessed almost unlimited power, just as their Demiurge ancestors did.
Vortirus responded by breeding dragons and others of their kind. Dragons began to breed on their own.
The Nephilims lived in a paradisiacal world created especially for them by the Universe. It was a beautiful world, but it was static, because creation saw no value in change. The Nephilims, on the other hand, had imagination and longed for new things. As long as they showed their ambition and excitement for an increasingly successful war against the dragons, the Universe saw no problem.
But boredom, curiosity, and unlimited power encouraged the Nephilims to satisfy their every whim without thinking, and to seek new ways to amuse themselves. The Nephilims multiplied with terrible force and, thanks to their limitless possibilities, sought new sensations. There was no law of the universe that they did not try to break.
The children of the Nephilims were the Goliaths, giants who had cannibalism and the destruction of anything they liked in the custom of things. These stupid and cruel creatures thought that by devouring beautiful things, they could thus get closer to the source of beauty and harmony.
From the Goliaths, from the spilled ichor of the Nephilims and dragons in the Spiral of Worlds the first mortal races were born. The ancient tribes began to worship the Nephilims and dragons, although the latter paid little attention to them. Some ancient beings even managed to realize the existence of the Universe and Vortirus.
In time, the Nephilims exterminated most of the first dragons. But the Nephilims became hubris, wished for rewards for their services, and, for the most part, they fell.
Only a few remained loyal to the light and continue to guard the Spiral of Worlds.
The fallen Nephilims who survived are trapped in the Lower Worlds.
To counterbalance Vortirus and his children, and now the fallen Nephilims, the Universe has allowed mortal wizards to be raised to gods through the blood of dragons and Nephilims.
But the Universe and the loyal Nephilims are wary of the gods and believe that sooner or later each of the gods will fall, as the Nephilims fell. But for now, they are more comfortable fighting the Dark Unknowns with the hands of the gods and their followers.
Some of the more "light" gods, like Aria, were raised by loyal Nephilims, or Nephilims, that want to earn forgiveness. For this reason, some gods have slightly higher moral standards and generally not as selfish goals as others.
