Attack on Titan ep. 1

Welcome to a new thing I'm trying out!  I'm going to be watching Attack on Titan and would love you to watch along with me.  This will be somewhat different from a regular reaction - no editing, more chill, just hanging out together.  πŸ™‚

I've also decided to make the first episode free for everyone so you can get an idea if this is something you'd enjoy seeing.  Future episodes will be included in Ridiculous tier and above.

You will need your own access to the show because I don't want to lose my shirt or go to prison πŸ‘πŸ»

Ooh, good to know, thank you! I will do that

There are some episodes that have an extra scene after the credits. I recommend being on the lookout for those since they can be very important

I was actually not aware of NZ's specific role in WWII, that's fascinating! And what an incredible family history you have, that is something to be proud of πŸ’œ I'm very eager to see what's in store in this show, I've heard such praise for it!

Yay! This show starts off with a lot of shock and horror, but what it seemed to me to become about was the psychological effects of long term, bloody warfare on young soldiers. Now, I have never served in the military myself, but I was raised to be aware of and take an interest in the service of previous generations. Most of my male relatives served in the New Zealand Army. As you may know, the 2nd Division of the New Zealand Army saw the most continuous combat of any division in WWII. My Great Uncles went right through it. It was understood by the family that one brother had been seriously wounded by German fire in North Africa, and the other brother had left cover under fairly heavy enemy fire to rescue him. My Mother's father had actually broken his arm during basic training and never served overseas (to his lifelong shame, as NZ was the country with the greatest percentage of it's population to serve overseas during WWII) My maternal grandmother (in the panic about the planned Japanese invasion of NZ) served as a height finder on an Anti Aircraft gun on the hills overlooking Lyttleton Harbour. All my life I heard about the older cousin (that I apparently would have liked) but who was killed before I was born serving in the NZ Army in Vietnam. NZ and Australia share April 25 as our memorial day (ANZAC Day) with dawn parades and shops being closed in the morning being important parts of the culture. The Returned Services Association is the world's first national veterans advocacy group, and runs bars and homes all over the country. (One of my Great Uncles used to live in an RSA subsidised flat.) Even today our War Memorials in every tiny, rural town are buried under poppies every ANZAC Day. On my UK born Dad's side of the family, he served in his youth in 1 Para (1st Battalion the Parachute Regiment) the crack British Army regular regiment. His Irish born Dad had served in 1st Airborne Division in WWII. This show becomes very quickly about the cost of service on young people (and how they deal with it.) People die. Very quickly, and in large numbers. This is a show that ought to be very silly. It isn't.
