Ahhhh I see! That seems to be much more common these days, having a very long setup for the main story. It's interesting for sure.

We will get more of her backstory in a few episodes and a much better understanding of why she is so utterly loyal to Eren. We get introduced to a few more characters here but all the recruits are still kids. They age up and mature in the next couple of episodes, before graduating the several year long basic training. We are still in the intro phase of the show!
