Dead Alive is a great horror/comedy. That one and Bad Taste are pretty weird by Jackson

It was the first time Peter Jackson had ever had a decent budget and he used it to make another of his splatter horror comedies - without studio interference The result is one of the bloodiest, goriest films I have ever seen. One of my guilty pleasures is watching the credits of this movie and noting how many of the crew would go on to win Oscars for LOTR a decade later.
