Breaking Bad S2E6
Added 2023-10-07 17:29:48 +0000 UTCThis one was really really tough to watch, for the first time in this we see the deeply personal effects of the drug lifestyle, and what it does to people other than the user. It makes it a lot harder to stay detached, at least for me. And Walt becomes more and more obviously a dick.

I firmly believe that the killing of Crazy Eight was Walt feeling his oats, then the frenzied sex...he got a taste of control and the illusion of power, and took the bitterness OF HIS MISTAKE LEAVING GRETCHEN to turn it back on her in his jealousy. He wants to rewrite his exit from Grey Matter to feed his growing narcissism. Poor Jessie. I always knew he was a good person that made a few bad decisions after high school. Now, as Private Pyle would say, is in a world of shit. Great reaction. No apologies for concern for that poor child. It was heartbreaking.

It just occurred to me how deep it is to show us Walt, this "upstanding" family man, a "productive member of society" who underneath is cold and self centered, contrasted with Jesse, the dirty drug addict who threw away the good upbringing he got, who underneath is kind and empathetic. Would Walt have felt sorry for the kid, feed him, rebuke his POS mother, protect him from the sight of the dead man and his mother with a needle in her arm? Doubtful. I fear what Walt would have done in that situation, actually.

Skyler has little patience left for Walt's constant gaslighting, we see more hints of his cold fury in his response to Gretchen's pity and the whole tragicomic situation Jesse has to deal with reminds us that dealing meth is NOT victimless crime. Hank's panic attack doesn't bode well for his new assignment. We start to get a feel for what the future looks like for all characters, and it's not good for anyone.
