Wasn't sure what I was getting into here, but ended up with a very good WWII movie that DIDN'T break my soul!

Agreed, very underrated movie with a good cast of character actors that most people know. Very true WW2 was also known for both sides doing just as much if not more damage to civilian targets than military. The doctrine being a literal war of atrrition and the attempt to destroy an enemies will to fight. You see this on all sides, which is why it took Europe so long to rebuild as so much of it was bombed. same thing as the fire bombings US did to Japan, one of the main reasons the US came to the forefront as a super power is geographic isolation and having an intact infrastructure.

Hiya! This was a very good movie. "Milk Run" was slang for a very low risk mission. In WWII Bombers had a much longer operational range than fighters (even US fighters, which were optimised for range but the trade off was that they had much less armour and firepower than British fighters, which in turn had super short operational ranges.) The result was that for most of the war bombers only had fighter escorts at the beginning and end of each mission. The sad fact is that in WWII less than 20% of dropped bombs landed even within 5 miles of their target. Because you mentioned wanting to see true stories, I am going to recommend watching the story video of metalheads/ history nerds Sabaton and their song "No Bullets Fly". At the end the families of the participants of the story show up and thank the band for remembering their loved ones stories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dslO-3GgenY
