Its more if you have a talent or skill that gives you a better chance to get a better life/improve your lifestyle/standing that other people would do anything to be able to do so vs being forced to. Williams' character was more neutral party just trying to heal him and not caring what he did as long as he was mentally healthy to make his own choice.
