Added 2024-01-24 16:00:07 +0000 UTCahahaha this was SWEET! I feel a little dumb for not putting together who Il Duce was until the last possible second but that do be how it goes sometimes. Hope you like it, youtube cut will be up as soon as I'm done.

2024-01-25 01:08:43 +0000 UTCI'm glad to hear the truth about Kitty Genovese! I was in the middle of my fanboy crush on Tarantino and Guy Ritchie when this movie was released and I lapped it up! I later found out that this movie was Troy Duffy's "one shot" at success, which fizzled. In the 90s I actually wrote a (terrible) screenplay at least partially inspired by this with multiple timelines connected by hotel banqueting waiters (my job at the time) who finally commit to an unrelated crime at the end.

2024-01-24 21:12:35 +0000 UTCI had a whole long reply and Patreon ate it 🤣 But yeah, this definitely felt like a "film geek's" dream movie. A lot of very cool and innovative things going on! I learned about Kitty Genovese in college. Luckily, the bystander stuff is actually pretty exaggerated. Very few people actually saw the attack or anything that would alarm anyone, most later reported they thought people were just yelling, not uncommon in New York. Of the ones who did see something significant, a few did call in, but the inefficiency of the phone system delayed police arrival. Bystander effect is a real thing, but I feel a little better about humanity knowing that 38 people didn't actually witness a murder and do nothing 💜

2024-01-24 20:16:04 +0000 UTCI was the target audience for this when it was released! Full of myself, proto film geek, big fan of The Big Yin! This movie was my first sight of Norman Reedus (and the first time I ever heard the Kitty Genovese story.) I still have a weakness for Irish descended people and stories. This movie tickled me with it's cast and it's attitude.
