The fire in the hearth flickered low, casting golden light across ancient stone walls and worn tapestries. Outside, the wind howled against the tall windows, but in hereโฆ everything was quiet. Still. Waiting.
I stood at the edge of the four-poster bed, my fingertips brushing the velvet drapes, heart fluttering under silk and lace. He was behind me. Close enough to feel, not yet touching.
"You're sure?" he asked, voice low and patient.
I nodded, too breathless to speak. He stepped forward, and finally โ finally โ his hands met my waist. Steady. Warm. Confident.
I melted into him like Iโd been waiting for this all my life.
He took his time. Every clasp he undid. Every ribbon he unknotted. Every sigh he pulled from my lips. I felt more alive with each layer he removed, more me.
The fabric slid from my shoulders like it already knew the way, pooling at my feet in soft surrender. I turned, bare in the golden glow, and met his eyes.
There was no rush.
No need for words.
Just heat.
The bed creaked beneath us as he pulled me down into him, the weight of his body grounding me against the cool sheets. His mouth found my skin โ neck, collarbone, chest โ slow as sunrise, sure as rain. Every inch of me was seen. Every sound I made was treasured.
We moved together like something practiced, like a secret song only we could hear.
The candlelight flickered. Shadows danced. And I gave myself over completely.
To him.
To the moment.
To the fire between us.
By the time we collapsed, tangled in one another and lost in the hush of stone and flame, I had only one thought: I never knew something so old could feel so new.
