Friday night comic workshop

Magical Patrons,

I recently started attending some of the Sequential Artist Workshop Friday night sessions. They're free, virtual, and open to anyone. The purpose shifts but the format is always a comic artist sharing some specific element of their storytelling with some comic-making together thrown in. It's relaxing, semi-social, and just commital enough to ensure I spend at least a little bit of time in the week playing around in my sketchbook.

One of my favourite sessions so far was Sarah Mirk's "Drawing Yourself as a Teenager" which focused on specific items of clothing and what we would have carried on us at the time. It gave me a chance to visit teenage Brenda, cluelessly furious and so deeply self-conscious, wearing those thrifted bell bottoms to death like armour. It made me smile to draw and remember so I wanted to share them with you.

I have the chance to make these visits and spend this time because you've all chosen to support me and the work I do. The support from you incredible Patrons is the exact reason I can give myself this time in a class and a sketchbook. I don't think I'll ever be able to put words all the way around how grateful I am.

Thank you friends, for all your support and for giving me time to draw and remember.

Be well,

B

The image of me that occurs is circa 16. Oversized glittery top big enough to hide in. Jeans. Black booties I wore until my father intervened. Carrying a notebook filled with bad poetry. 🀣

it was a super fun exercise - oooo it would be cool to meet the multiple Bewitches!

Oh gosh revisiting myself as a teenager...that would be a fun challenge. I was so different 13-14 than 15-18
