End of November 2023 News Post

Hey folks!

Hope everyone had a good November. Let's give an update on the game and the winner of last month's poll.

Well I didn't see this coming. The fennec fox won the final spot on the team with dragon coming in at second place at 26% of the vote. Even with the extra voting power some of you had, the gap was still too wide. Don't worry, I'll make sure to make a cool dragon npc somewhere but we finally have our full knight team. On discord I showed off a wip artwork with the whole cast. I plan on making that into an exclusive wallpaper for you guys as a reward for next month.

This month we focused more on getting crafting done. (At least coding wise!) Minle was able to finish the main bulk of code for the new crafting system. This was a system that we had to disable since my version had some bad bugs.( This caused folks to craft unlimited amount of things if you knew what was broken.) With this new system, we can make crafting recipes in the game instead of hard coding each item. Once Chika is done doing a quick test, we will be pushing the build out to testers. Please keep in mind the crafting system still is using test art and I need to clean it up. Below I'll have a screen shot.

(As you can tell, still very rough but it works!)

This time around, we'll have more dragging interactions with the crafting system as well as some new features. In game, players can now use "tools" in order to craft items. If you find a knife, you'll now need that to cut down cloth or materials for more advance crafting items. We even have some environmental tools like an open flame. The idea with this is that only at set spots you can craft things that need heat. Like say cooking. We plan on adding a crafting/cooking station to the base to make it more useful. There you'll be able to cook for better food items that help with hunger or craft items that needs heat, like potions or ores.  This will limit the amount of things you can craft out in the wild. This will make upgrading your base and towns more important in the game loop and for late game.

Once it's ready for public testing, we will have the testers play with the crafting system. If you would like to sign up to be a tester then please fill out this google  forum.

I worked with Minle to set up the bots needed to be able to build out test builds automatically. We plan on using Itch.io in order to host these game files. This system however has some testing we need to finish, so hopefully next week or so we can sort it out and get the first official auto tester build out. In the meantime, if interested, please sign up for testing, I'll give you a tester role on discord and you'll have access to the new testers channel. When things are ready we will drop a password and link to the test itch page.

Keep in mind that testers are meant for patrons only, it's one of your perks. It's not required to join but if you want to see new game content sooner then that's the way to do so. Also as I mentioned before, all testers will get their names as part of the dev team on the credits. I plan on updating the credits to show this off for 0.0.24 build.

Oh! Below was an artwork I showed off on the discord. It's the artwork that I made for the wonderful music Warden is making for the game.

And that's pretty much it. I already updated the team on their tasks and everyone is working towards the 0.0.24 build. At this moment, we are still looking at the end of January release. Thank you all for the support. This new schedule already are having some more positive effects. With this pace, we can make a better product overall. I'm pretty happy with the progress on the workflow and new tools we are using. It's a great step towards our goals.
