Birrin Egg Ideas

Working out how birrin embryos develop. The top 'lid' is a protein packet attendant females add to the egg to feed it, and it has to be replaced from time to time.

In one idea the embryo's mouth simply directly attaches to the packet, in another the 'wings' have extented fungus like membranes that digest the protein packs.

Neat! I will give it a look, thanks :)

Alex

I don't know if this is useful for ideas, but somebody got a chicken to hatch from a cup, and filmed each day as the embryo developed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOLy6J1Sorg

Having thought about it i think i prefer A

I imagine the yolk is actually a hardened protein pack so removing it would be removing something quite solid, with the babies jaws beneath.

Alex

Nursing the yolk with their mouths kinda reminds me of kangaroo young, when they (if I remember the information rightly) get into the pouch and latch on to a teat, kinda getting stuck there until they're developed enough to stop and get out again. I wonder if that would make changing out the protein packet difficult, though? Is the yolk floating up there and the embryo is sucking it down loosely, or is there a firm hookup that the attendants would have to unhook to change the packet, then do special things to get the embryo to rehook to the new thing?

Very cool, a feels more egglike while b reminds me of bee larvae.

Luke Prictor

Cant really comment on which is better, but it immediately made me think of how some chicken eggs can have two yokes, meaning (snd I bet quite really) a Birrin egg will hatch two, so twins. So what part if culture about that is going to be interesting.

I kinda prefer the first one! And if you're worried it's less cute - I disagree. It made me think of those youtube videos of the australian lady who saves flying foxes and gives them funny names and then feeds them fruit, which they gobble up with comically large bites

Preda

which choice?

Alex

A food pack they have to replace time to time? That's new for me, though I'd still prefer the other choice finding it more plausible.

Astro-Aladfar

I like the concept, but its definitely less 'cute'

Alex

I like them noshing on the protein pack with their mouths.
