Patagia Panoply

Greetings adventurers!

There are all manner of folks who want to solve every possible problem they come across by turning to magic, when often the better answer is turning to nature. The best answer is when you can combine both. Through working with a zoologically inclined friend of mine, we were able to devise a way to defeat gravity altogether through the cunning use of magic and mimicking the natural abilities of the sugar glider. I proposed a bit more of a complex name to give it the proper grandiosity it deserved. While some may say it’s a mouthful, I say it’s perfectly descriptive!

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:
Sometimes, you just want to make something cute. At least, I do anyways. Fernando and I are big fans of the animal world and if you look through our collection of items, you’ll see that we’ve done a lot of animal theming within them. I think that’s a good way to tackle theming. There’s just a lot of cool stuff in nature and this is a fun way to bring some of it to the forefront. Sugar gliders are these adorable little tree guys that fling themselves around gliding to keep themselves safe from falls and I just loved that. It’s like a wingsuit for your fantasy games.

For our 5E version, this was pretty easy to accomplish by mimicking limited fly speeds. There’s some basis for this in creatures already and I mostly looked towards those when figuring out how to write the glide rules. I do wish there were more direct rules for gliding, but I wanted to at least offer the feel of gliding without making it just feel like featherfall, thus the horizontal movement. Trading some of that movement for diving felt appropriate as well as 5E is a bit more loose with movement rules.

In PF2E, we actually already have glide rules. They are present in a number of feats, so this was more based around writing the high jump rule and making sure that it was balanced correctly for the level that it is. I wanted to make sure it came in above the point where some ancestry feats offer gliding as it also has the high jump benefit. I think landing where we did keeps it feeling like a solid early/midgame option.

Offering adorable inventions is one of my favorite things to do with our magic items and this one is certainly no different. We try to run the gamut on our offerings from creepy to cute and everywhere in between. Designing a glider was a fun little exercise though. I like figuring out ways to offer mechanics that aren’t present in the game currently or expand on ones that are present in meaningful ways.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
