Watch episode 9 of Unfinished London NOW!

It’s here... the brand new episode of Unfinished London!

Remember last year, in the video about Greater London, the bit that says “London was also divided into 32 new boroughs, but that’s a story for another time.”? Well, that time, if you’re reading this right now, is right now! This episode is all about London’s 32 boroughs, specifically how they came into being, why there are 32 of them, and how they got those names.

No one else gets to see this for at least 24 hours. Because of your wonderful, kind, generous, invaluable, very much appreciated, fantastic, humbling, timely, lovely, benevolent, good, awesome, celery, celery???, sorry, helpful, continued support... I am able to do this job. And for that I am very very thankful. Especially during lockdown when YouTube is the only income between me and my fiancée. So, giving you early access to the new episode is the very very least I can do.

If you have any comments or questions about this episode, now’s a good time to get them in - I should be able to reply to every single one of them before the onslaught comes from the riff raff. Eurgh.

Part 2 is coming next month, and you will, of course, get early access to that as well.

Oh, by the way, I *JUST* noticed a tiny mistake in the video that I'm going to have to correct and re-upload before I make it go fully public, but it's so small, I'm sure you'd rather see the 99.99999% finished version than have to wait any longer. (The lip-sync on the owl goes wrong near the end of the advert). In fact, while I've got you, can you let me know if you spot anything else that's gone wrong that I can fix? Nothing too hard, like I'm wearing a shit jumper,  but anything you think I can get done in 24 hours that's worth reuploading for, that'd be super.

OK, that's enough from me. Thank you so so much for being my Patreon Patron!

Thank you and goodbye in that order!

Love your work Jay, I'm here after seeing your YouTube payment for your recent video. Thank you

1:06 "Ticket to Ride: Europe." The publisher, Days of Wonder, made Ticket to Ride: London last year. Seems like it'd be right up your alley!

William Adderholdt

Brilliant video. Loved the ITV spinning 'adverts are coming' warning.

Thanks Jay for the very hard work that you put into this production. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Galen Thurber

Amazing as always, I'm glad I finally have the money to finally support you. I was laughing out loud several times.

Alex Goodman

Thank you! Totally, i've sent the one about the missing northern line to my family - we live in an area of australia where we can see a local train line that never happened, so it's nice to see we're not the only ones! Huge fan of your work!

Thanks Regina! I’ve made a note of that and fixed it. Don’t forget to wait until I upload the real video before sending it to other people! :)

Jay Foreman

Hey, between 7:43 and 7:44 there's a really bad flicker between scenes that needs to be fixed. Love your work, i've been sending it around to everyone i think might be slightly interested during *gestures* all of this

Yeah, I regularly watch those videos and weirdly can never get enough weirdness about that weird place

Sarah Peper

It’s on the potential to-do list. In the meantime, I thoroughly recommend CGP Grey’s videos about the City. https://youtu.be/LrObZ_HZZUc https://youtu.be/z1ROpIKZe-c

Jay Foreman

"We could talk for hours about what makes the City of London weird" - please do, I would listen for hours! :)

Sarah Peper

Newham should have been called Ham Sandwich

Oh, sorry, I'm not suggesting you do those things, I'm just listing things I would've found funny :-D

Oh, but it's a challenge! I'd say, rethink this scene in the way which reflects the reason why it's filmed weird, but try to keep every detail to the point of absurdity for a comedic effect. Or something like that. The situation itself is very identifiable right now, so I'm just crossing my fingers that you come up with something hilarious! Or do it with animation on the photographic-like background , but don't use not the real photo, instead some apocalyptic version... Something like that...

We managed to film all but one scene - which I’m going to have to rethink... might have to do that bit with animation, or newspaper clippings, or cut that scene entirely, which would ruin the rest of the video...? I dunno. Don’t really want to think about it yet. Everything’s fine. Tra la la la la!

Jay Foreman

Thanks! We’re supposed to be getting married in July, but it’s almost definitely going to be postponed. We don’t know. We don’t want to think about it.

Jay Foreman

Nevermind about the question, I've read the previous posts. Okay, will you be doing NEW stuff?

This is lovely! Did you actually film everything you need for the part two? I'm actually hoping to see a video from you not filmed before the pandemic. Creativity thrives under pressure after all :))

Jay you crazy, lovable, midget-gem, you rock. Hope your wedding plans weren't scuppered by this bothersome virus fella.

Grant

The preposterous amount of details you can only see by pausing and the obviously ludicrous amount of effort you put into this are greatly appreciated. Excellent work as always.

Hey, dodgy synthesizers make up most of my favorite music!

Adam Wurstmann

Loved this Jay and a brilliant surprise to find it this evening. I love the attention to detail and the way you connect with your fans and supporters. Plus I love spotting the cameos you spot only on the fourth of fifth viewing and the close friends who pop up most episodes. I can't imagine there are many family members who haven't starred in some form in your videos!

Listening on speakers, main trigger for me was at 1:35. Proud to be your patreon, hope you're doing well. Super fun to see Tim in the video!

Lennart de Vries

I might have just learned something new (will google :-D)

Lennart de Vries

Then it works, cause that's exactly what it sounded like :-P

Lennart de Vries

Those are cue dots. All my videos have them before the adverts.

Jay Foreman

Something weird in the right upper corner at 9:19

Lennart de Vries

Oops. That’s not supposed to happen. Between which scenes does the audio level vary noticeably? Are you listening on headphones?

Jay Foreman

Yep. It’s meant to be the sound of 3 sped-up versions of me.

Jay Foreman

Is the audio supposed to go on after the GlassJay falls and breaks?

Lennart de Vries

One thing I notice is the variation in audio-level between scenes. (Going to continue watching now)

Lennart de Vries

Not the Eagles' version, a dodgy synthesizer version made by the BBC for their TV version of Hitchhiker's Guide.

Jay Foreman

Yay!! Thanks so much for being a Pateron Patron, whether you were aware or not! Enjoy your dinner!

Jay Foreman

Thanks so much! I've made a note of that, and I'll fix it before tomorrow! :)

Jay Foreman

Was that a snippet of "Journey of the Sorcerer" I heard?

Adam Wurstmann

Absolutely brilliant work as always, Jay! My girlfriend and I visited London again just recently and I was fascinated (and perplexed) by the borough naming conventions. This cleared up a lot and I'm looking forward to episode 10! Or 9.5! Also take a look at 7:42, there's a funky glitch in the transition. It'll probably get sorted when you make your final render, but just in case!

nitetime

When I saw your youtube post about this video I came here to become a patron of yours, only to be reminded I already was. And oh, boy did it pay off! My dinner will be so much better now! I've never been to the UK, but if I ever go to London I'll be listening facts I learned from your videos to passerby Londoners like a crazy lunatic! :D
