NEW EPISODES AND OUTTAKES!

Morning all!

It’s been a heck of a month and a half! And I’ve got no fewer than FOUR things to tell you about. So sit tight, and shut up.

1 - AWARD!

Map Men has been nominated for a Streamy award!!!

If, like me last month, you don’t know what the Streamys are, imagine the Baftas, but it’s in America, and instead of TV it’s for YouTube videos. If you don’t know what the Baftas are, imagine the Streamys, but it’s in Britain and instead of YouTube videos, it’s for TV. If you don’t know what the Baftas or the Streamys are, imagine a petrol station, but instead it’s an award ceremony.

Map Men has been nominated in the category of Learning and Education. And we’re shocked and honoured! (We didn’t even submit an application.) And what great company we’re in! We’re alongside such magnificents as  @Captain Disillusion ,  @Tom Scott ,  @Veritasium   and  @onlyjayus . We’d be honoured to lose to any of those lovely channels.

(We’re very much the underdog by the way with by far the fewest subscribers, so if we do win, it’ll be like Kula Shaker beating La La Land in the World Cup.)

Anyway, there’s no public vote. The decision is made by a panel of boffins. So there’s nothing you or I can do except sit tight and wait for the results to come in on Saturday 11th December at 6pm PT (which is 2am Sunday morning here in London, when I will almost definitely be asleep.) Fingers and toes crossed! If we do win, we’ll… I dunno, probably some kind of awkward ill-prepared video acceptance speech.

2 - ONE MILLION SUBSCRIBERS

Last month, one of you magnificent bastards clicked the button and took the number of subscribers from 999,999 to the frankly staggering milestone of one million! THANK YOU so so so much to every single one of you!

The big bosses at YouTube sent me a gold play button in the post with my name on it. I haven’t decided where to put it yet. I think, when I eventually get round to getting an office, I’ll hang it intimidatingly on the wall behind me so that it appears in the background of photos of me sat at my desk. Yeah, that’ll look nice. And I think I’ll get one of those toast racks with envelopes in it too, just to make me look more professional. And one of those buttons you press to say “send him in please”. Yeeeeeah.

3 - NEW UNFINISHED LONDON

Coming up in January and February and March 2022, there will be THREE new episodes of Unfinished London. I won’t tell you what they’re about, cos it’s a big secret. It was going to be one episode, but there was just so much to talk about that it’s ballooned into a massive three-parter, split into separate videos that you can (and must) watch one at a time. There are lots of surprises and special guests, and I can’t wait for you all to see it!

We’ve filmed most of it already, with just a few scenes (and a huge amount of editing) left to do, so I’ll keep you updated with how that’s going. 

And finally……..

4 - OUTTAKES AND DELETED SCENES FROM MAP MEN

This one, rather cheekily, is a thing that not all of you get to see. We’ve thrown together a reel of outtakes and deleted scenes from the last series of Map Men.

It contains behind-the-scenes looks at how bits were filmed, alternate episode endings, candid snippets of us writing jokes on the fly, and of course things going terribly wrong that make us giggle.
