Character Backgrounds

One of the first steps in generating your character for Memoirs of a Battle Brothel is choosing your background. Your background will determine the amount of starting funds you get, whether your character gets stat bonuses as a result of previous experiences, and even affinity with certain factions. Some backgrounds will also have unique dialogue choices or encounters. 

• Spire noble
  • A non-inheriting scion of a noble house has many options. Those who have an entrepreneurial mindset may set their sights on starting a new corp, investing wisely, or if they are especially reckless, purchase a Writ of Facilitation. 
  • Modifiers:
    • Large starting funds
• Former courtesan
  • Courtesans who have left the trade but not the Guild are welcomed back with open arms. Naturally charming and with years of experience in a Guild House, they make for skilled Facilitators. 
  • Modifiers:
    • Medium starting funds
    • Charisma bonus
    • Faction affinity with Guild Progressives
    • Faction affinity with Guild Traditionalists
• Grifter
  • It’s con or be conned. Grifters are gifted liars who understand the true nature of MoonFall. While they might not be as skilled with a gun or blade, their silver tongue is the only weapon they rely on.

    • Faction affinity with The Old Watch
• Street thug
  • MoonFall is a dangerous place, and the streets can be hungry. Low-level gang enforcers are constantly vying for supremacy, and those with a way to upward mobility are eager to take it.

    • Melee bonus
    • Ranged bonus
    • Athletics bonus
    • Perception bonus
    • Faction affinity with The Iron Cartel
• Cultist
  • MoonFall is home to many underground sects and brotherhoods, including many shaper cults. Even those who are not shapers retain a degree of spiritual attunement beyond what you’d find elsewhere. 
  • Modifiers:

    • Spirit Bonus
    • Faction affinity with The Three Moons 
• Corp floater
  • Corporate floaters are freelancers that jump from corp to corp based on the contracts they acquire. Tech-savvy and resourceful, floaters prefer indirect methods in getting what they want.
  • Modifiers:

    • Technology bonus
    • Faction affinity with The Board
• Mercenary
  • Mercenaries are the grizzled veterans of the various private military corporations that operate out of MoonFall. Trained and drilled to be killers, They are experts in the application of violence. 
  • Modifiers:

    • Ranged bonus
    • Athletics bonus
    • Faction affinity with Stormbreakers
• Nobody
  • Some people are utterly without reputation or history. 
  • Modifiers:
    • Very low starting funds
