Dungeon TF/Crysalis Progress report (2023-04-27)

Hey folks,

it's Thursday! Which means a new progress report and as you can see at the title, tehre are a few changes.

First of all, I guess the most obvious, a new name!

Yep, I am planning to name the game "Crysalis", for a few reasons. The name change itself comes mostly because the project developed in a very different direction, over time, than it was planned at the start.

So the name "Dungeon TF" isn't fitting too much anymore. Plus it sounded a bit plain.

So, what will Crysalis be about? It's going to be more of a fully fleshed RPG, where your job is to catalog species of the land and turn into them, to study them.

As you can see from there, I am going to put transformations at the core of the game, not just at the end. You do still have bad ends with TF themes though, don't worry.

But it will not be a roguelike, with generated levels anymore and have a bit more of a story (even though, it's still pretty plain).

I created a map of the world already, because it was fun. Names need to be added still and well, deciding on what things are gonna be.

Generally speaking, I'm taking a lot of inspiration from Pokemon, but with some significant changes of course. One being, that you won't have a team and also you turn into monsters.

Some technical stuff needs to be solved, also there will be further changes, of course, to make things fit.
I do love the new direction though and hope you all do too!

So what else I am working on?

Mostly random things. I said it on my discord, I am working on a couple of things at once, which is attacks and combat refinement, but also adjusting sprites and adding overworld tiles.

So I am doing a lot, but none of it progresses at a fast pace.

PS:  I nearly forgot, I am planning to buy a steam app license next month and create projects for both steam and itch soon-ish (probably taking months).

Once everything is at a state, that I like, I'll give out keys to you all, so I can release prototypes and test versions to you over those!

Comments

This looks so cool! I love the idea of being a researcher through tf (makes sense) also the fact it can go wrong also makes sense
