BONUS VIDEO: Fun with a Tiny Potato Computer - the Psion 5mx

Hello Patreon friends! I found a tiny potato of a computer - a Psion 5mx  with 16mb of RAM and 32 whole megahertz! Let's check it out, have some  fun with it, and of course - run DOOM.

It also runs #NetBSD (9.3 or 10). Also there's the Sharp Zaurus Line that runs Linux natively.

You shouldn't jiggle the hinges so much, as they are fragile and there are few shops left which will repair your 5mx. Speaking from experience.

to be fair, 16 megs for an embedded device/glorified pda in 1999 is actually quite substantial

If you pull down the little tab in front of those three small buttons, you will see that all three of them are labelled for voice recording/playback functions. :-)

You are quite welcome. I get to see some cool stuff and learn things I wouldn't have otherwise been able to! I know it's not much, but in between jobs, it's what I can do now. Besides, I'm in love with bitbang, too. :) Thanks for the great content.

That was gonna be my question, HHGG on that seems pretty fitting. There's another Douglas Adams penned game out there called Bureaucracy from infocom as well. Seems fitting since he loved tiny computers.

Old subscriber(in age, too!) and a new patron! Thank you so much for all your old tech shenanigans!!

Uh uh... pretty soon you'll be going down the early smartphone rabbit hole, too! Symbian OS was used by Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, BenQ and many others in the form of Series 60/80/90 and UIQ. Ah, the heady days of the early mobile Internet! Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), xHTML, cHTML and Japan's iMode... those were the days. Then the iPhone happened. Dun dun dunnnnnn.
