BONUS VIDEO: You Can Still Get BRAND NEW Flybacks for an iMac G3!

Hello Patreon Friends!

Today, let's solve that flickery iMac screen once  and for all with a BRAND NEW flyback transformer!

Plus, we'll test out the HARMONi in a different revision iMac, to see if  it really won't work - or if that's just an old time urban legend.

Amazing that you can still get flyback transformers. I wonder if we'll ever see production of those start up again?

That was my biggest fear when I got my iMac G3. I am so glad there is options to replace flybacks!

Gonna guess you don’t have a desoldering gun? (PS, get a desoldering gun. Even if you use it once a year, you’ll be so thankful you have it)

I’m wondering if the processor cards are backwards compatible maybe try the original rev D card in the rev B and see if it boots maybe that’s what they meant by same revision

Lucus Elliott

Pretty fly video.

You give me confidence to do what needs to be done. Thank you. New to soldering.

Scout

Gotta love it when a repair goes well! (Barring SSD weirdness, lol) You may have just inspired me to repair my childhood Tangerine iMac, which has a *very* dead flyback at the moment.

Daniel Aufmann

To make your desoldering life easier, I strongly suggest you get this thing: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1597 I feel so silly singing the praises of a solder sucker but it's amazing. I've desoldered crap like IC sockets and a USB-B connector among other things without much fuss. I have a cheapo solder sucker that I never used because it sucked so much (like in the bad way), this new one sucks in the right way Also it goes POP when you hit the button in an entertaining way The main downside is it can expel little bits of solder when you push the plunger back down so you would ideally want to do that over some sort of collection container
