Schizophrenia Explains Schizophrenia || The Mental Illnesses 3.5

Rough dr@ft, probably needs fact checking. Might add a song to the end if I can get it done in time

Schizophrenia Explains Schizophrenia || The Mental Illnesses 3.5

It's actually just almost unbelievable how you can take ideas that on the surface are just... a really bad idea and you shouldn't do it... like having a story where the protagonists political extremists trying to destroy the status quo with violence and one of them is a literal Nazi, or a bunch of mentally ill people living in a house together and wackiness ensues as they and their illnesses interact to hilarious effect... and then make it not just funny, and sensitive to the issues at hand, but also legit educational. Like wtf? You really got this whole "art" thing down my dude............................... also fffffffffffffffffffffffffffff. I thought I was done worrying about you after you berated me for caring about pixels on a screen so many times but you keep managing to be super, super fucking real. Especially powerful considering how much a lot of these symptoms resonate with what I've been going through myself lately... been making 'haha i'm going schizo' jokes and man it hits different when you realize how true it is. GREAT video.

Extremely helpful thank you

Also! Catatonia is NOT “people who lay around all day”. If you’re LUCKY you’ll have a catatonic episode in bed or when sitting down lmao. It can literally happen whenever, tho, and it’s usually really similar to hardcore disassociative episodes... except your body literally becomes a pliable human statue. Most people aren’t actively conscious, or will have no memory of being catatonic, but if you ARE aware it’s a very similar feeling to sleep paralysis. I’ve had it happen a few times, luckily not longer than an hour or so, and all but (twice?) completely unaware. Ngl I consider myself really lucky that each time it’s apparently just looked like I was zoning out... some people get stuck for multiple hours, tho, and when I said “pliable” I mean people can like, move your limbs or turn your head or whatever and you stay in that position... I’ve seen videos of doctors doing that to test if it was a *real* episode before and it pisses me off every time. I feel terrible for people who deal with it regularly (from my understanding it is extremely rare tho, and most schizophrenics will never have a single catatonic episode)

Your local “high functioning” Schizoaffective here! There were some off parts, but you’re mostly on the right track. A thing to note is most antipsychotics have been rebranded as “mood stabilizers” because depending on which Gen and class they are, they’re affective for depression and bipolar disorder as well. In fact, most schizophrenics that are deemed high functioning enough will be falsely diagnosed as Bipolar I because putting a diagnose of Schizophrenia is often seen as a “death sentence” for someone, especially young people. You are very wrong that it’s impossible to have a normal life with schizophrenia on your diagnosis chart. I’m a part of a few mental health forums/communities, and while I do know a handful of people on disability, some of my schizo friends have fucking doctorates lmao. I, personally, am usually pretty good at holding down a job. So are my friends who include: a linguist who’s worked for Google, Merriam Webster and acted as a professor in a NY college (will not disclose for privacy reasons), a dude that literally runs his own massage therapy/chiropractor business out in CO, a cellist in NY who’s been preforming at a professional capacity since they were 14, a woman in PA that’s been the social director for a *very famous* charity since like 2016 and my homie who’s a computer security engineer in Sacramento.... all of which, including myself, are varying levels of medicated. Like, yah, it can be pretty fucking debilitating having a thought disorder, but as long as you surround yourself with the right kind of supportive people and are proactive in knowing your cycles/triggers/symptoms, you’re fine. Tbh it’s mostly neurotypical people who’ve never dealt with mania or psychosis that assume it ruins everything forever... most people who’ve been there know it’s ANNOYING and FRUSTRATING and occasionally scary, but it’s usually a temporary state that passes and in the meantime it’s manageable once you know what you’re dealing with

I have a close family member who is suffering from this right now. It's hard to keep someone around when they think you're plotting to kill them, and they dont want to take their meds. It's a hard thing for a family to go through. Thanks so much for shedding some light on this issue and bringing it up. It's really hard to talk about these kinds of things

I take meds related to military service. The lack of enjoyment of things and lost ability to concentrate is real. Excellent video as always. Thank you.

Seems legit. I didn't have symptoms until I was in my late 20s despite being MtF trans so either it is estrogen that's protective (started estrogen at 19) or FEMALE BRAIN HYPOTHESIS TRUE FUCK THE HATERS TRUTRANS 4 LIFE. I manage to hold down a job but would probably be fired if they knew I was schizo. You can ask me stuff but obviously I'm not an authority on anything.
