How Ranked Choice Voting Can Save American Politics

Hey, friends! Tired of having to choose between the lesser of two evils? Ranked choice voting could solve that problem. RCV is perhaps the only option for actually making our voices heard through the ballot box. This week's video explains what preferential voting is all about, and what it could mean for future elections. Hope you enjoy!

This makes me so curious to see the outcome of Maine presidential voting.

So how would Maine's RCV work with the general election? Being that there are 8 or 9 selections for the presidency would they be choosing 8-9 choices? Then the rotational tallying begins from there? So when they report results it would be post tallying the choices?

I vote in Australia and the US. In Australia, it feels like participating in democracy. In the US, it feels like playing a stupid game with the rules stacked against me. I think it's a big part of the reason voter turnout is so poor in the US. I'm so glad Second Thought is covering this.

This is already how voting is done here in Australia. I- I didn’t even know why it was good until now.

Would love to see you talk about related topics on alternative to elections, like random elections or participative democracy. There's this one French guy called chouard who made it his life's work of disseminating the idea that democracy != voting

Great video! I’ll be sharing it far and wide once it officially hits YouTube. 👍 As someone who is, yet again, voting for “the lesser of two evils”, I am also a proponent of RCV. I was interested in what opposition positions there were against it, and it seems that most are just that RCV won’t “live up to the hype”. That doesn’t really seem like that strong of an argument, so I’m wondering if there were any scenarios where RCV could actually end up being *worse* than the two-party duopoly that we have now?

Bold of you to assume American politics can (or wants to be) saved.
