Should We Rethink American Policing?

Howdy, friends! We're trying something a little different this week. My position on the police is pretty aggressive - I made a video about police brutality awhile back that made it clear just how little regard I have for American cops - but I wanted to try my hand at making a video that you can send to your more conservative friends, or your parents, or even police officers. The idea of this video is to explain that cops are taking on too many jobs that they're simply not suited for, and we need to change that. I hope you enjoy!

Good video, but serious question - audible? I remember the tag line being "videos sponsors would not touch", yet here we are with an Amazon product and I'm confused they would support it when other videos uh.. paint them in quite the damaging light. How does that work?

hack the system

awesome ! the folks on wall street hacked the system to put tons of money in their pockets. How do we "hack the system" to achieve a true democratic state.

I was one of those expected all problem solver . I worked in the city of Detroit during the Nevidson and Budson case with the Detroit Police Department. I was a parole officer and many of my coworkers feared going to work. The police are frequently dispatched to solve our social issues when they are never taught how to handle them. Lucky for me I was a psychology major in college. Listening to the officers talk about issues they were forced during our Fraternal Order of Police meeting was very tough.

I can tell you put a lot of thought into this video and it shows. The video comes across as very even handed and you make a clear effort to avoid partisanship. I think this is the best way to handle this subject if you want to reach a wide audience and produce an actual dialog. Keep up the great work. I intend to share this video on social media to help it reach a wide audience.

I'm so happy you're a good explainer, and make videos interesting to watch. I really like that part that you make it clear you're not blaming the police.

This week's episode of capitalism sucks is brought to you in association with.... Amazon. The world is weird.

Our lack of mental health and basic sanity underlies every problem here

I have been on the receiving end of multiple cops taking me down to the ground and beating me with their clubs while I was on the ground.....because I was young & drunk - not violent whatsoever - I just didn't go down easy. Oh, never charged with anything & I watched that same cop, later that afternoon, walk over to a man bent over the hood of a cop car with his arms behind his back, held by another cop, and cold-cocked him in his head. You are saying to millions, far more eloquently than I , something that I have experienced and tried desperately to get others to believe with little success (What ever I did I must have deserved it...) So thank you my friend - watching your video gives me an odd feeling of calmness because now others know and their dirty little secret is now out there for every person to see.

Great video as always. I liked the "cone" analogy, but Im concerned some people may lose the context and confuse it as an anticapitalism analogy dispite actually having nothing to do with economy. Because it sounds like a bad anticapitalist analogy. I wonder if there was a better analogy, something that can only be applied to police responsibilities.

Solid material. However, I'm going to guess "Total number of people killed by law enforcement in 2019" is a very challenging metric to get reliable data on as there are probably endless issues with reporting integrity globally.

I did. I tend to turn them off for the preview video when there’s a sponsor who needs to review it. Comments will be on for the actual video.
