"I am all for UBI, free education, universal healthcare and universal children daycare. But the CCP is not your friend." Do you think you would have this POV if you didn't live in a white settler colonial state but in an African country that is being meaningfully developed for the first time ever through its trade relations with a super-power? As far as you can stretch the term friendship when talking about a foreign government that probably falls under friendly relations. If you feel responsible for the conditions of de-development and exploitation that our Western states have thrown the global south into then why would you consider their biggest ally for development and industrialisation "not your friend"? These calls for investigations themselves are part of the propaganda war against China. And if you are on hostile terms with the CPC (not CCP) then that propaganda war might have already influenced you more than you might think? And as far as Canada's lust for war is concerned: I do not need to tell you as a Canadian just how much Canadas economy has been built around and depended on an ever growing arms-industry which is tightly interwoven with the US' state of perma-war since the 1940s. I just looked into it and Canada has 0.5% of the worlds share in arms exports while having only 0.005% of the worlds population, earning its place in the top 20 of greatest arms exporting nations. And this year a Canadian admiral commanded the maritime portion of a NATO drill-manouver (Steadfast Defender 2021) in how to wage war against Russia in the Atlantic ocean. EDIT: I looked into it some more, and found that Canada has a workforce if about 15mio people, and an average household size of 2.5 people. The Canadian arms-industries create ca 110.000 full time equivalent jobs in Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces counting roughly 67.000 personel, with the former creating 0.004% of Canadas GDP. While calculating with full time equivalents is likely a gross underestimation since precarious part-time jobs are a thing in Canada too, we arrive at ca 0.03% of Canadian households having a family member work in arms industries or armed forces - or 3 households out of 10.000. In my opinion that is quite substantial. Where do you think does the interest of all that capital lie in relation to aggressive politics towards a foreign threat? Pro-aggression and war or pro peace?

It's hard to be realistic about such topics - they are too contagious! In the end - everyone will find "evidence" that proves his/her prior conviction. Sure, the topic is important - such things and actions can easily bring humankind to the knees. Who's to blame? Human psychology, constant need to hurt others and gain absolute power. I wouldn't go to blame some nation particularly - after all - animal transfer explanation is still a possibility. I'm afraid that the only thing we can do is - hope. In most countries, the process of voting is broken, politicians do not listen to the public. Other countries are authoritarian. But all of them are secretive when it comes to these kinds of weapons. And when disclosed, many countries go with a story of the defensive purpose of their research.

Wait. Trump was saying the virus came from a lab. Which, with the evidence at the time was unfunded and a natural jump from animals to humans was the more likely explanation. Now, the narrative is: the virus might come from a lab. Unlikely but possible and we need an investigation. Not the same. The problem is we don't have evidences one way or another. And that's why we need an investigation. I am all for UBI, free education, universal healthcare and universal children daycare. But the CCP is not your friend. And asking for an investigation is not the same than claiming it comes from a lab. BTW, I am Canadian. And some Canadian officials called for an investigation as soon as march 2020. And Canada as no intent to go to war with China. Jeez, not everything in the world revolve around the US. Even the America left can't see outside their boundaries.
