The Importance Of Revolutionary Optimism

Howdy, comrades! I hope you're all doing well. This week I thought it would be good to talk about a very important part of revolution - the role of optimism. While it's often easy to fall into doomerism, remaining dedicated, principled, and optimistic is critical to the success of any movement. Let's talk about revolutionary optimism and what it can do for us. Hope you enjoy!

I feel you on much of your response. Optimism is great as far as it is dipped in reality and I don't see any way to make this monstrous capitalistic system into a cuddly teddy bear when it is full of fangs and venom and talons and is protected by an immoral horde of minions. I see no way to build into the system any way to tame it nor do so quickly enough through political action within the system. It must be demolished and we must build a better way forward.

Thoughts on this video: 1. This video seems to forget the content of your previous video that explains the Ratchet Effect. The Dems don't treat bills as DOA because they lack hope. It's because they don't want to pass them. They've never wanted to pass them. They only promise them to gain our votes. If they lose they can say they have no power. If they win they have to come up with an excuse (the parliamentarian, Manchin, etc.) why the change we want, but thier donors oppose, can never happen. 2. This video implies that Liberals are part of the Left; they're not. It also equates regular people (the target of this video) with national level politicians. 3. Fatalism on the Left is due to the status quo being dominated by 2 Right-wing parties; one which openly calls for our violent oppression and the other which pretends to be our ally and then stabs us on the back at every opportunity. This combined with a pervasive surveillance state & state-sponsored gangs with effective legal immunity paints a pretty grim picture for the revolution. 4. Your example of progress is renewable energy and frankly, it's a bad choice. Renewables have become more feasible due to heavy subsidies which occurred because they were a give away to corporations, not because they were good for us or the environment. Billions are being poured into bogus carbon-capture projects for the same reason. The fact that corporate projects get no-strings-attached taxpayer funding and a few work out to make life better isn't a win, it's just chance. The fact that renewables serve our interests was, at best, a tertiary factor in thier development. 5. I suppose your call to join the DSA is better than nothing. But that action they do will be within the boundaries of the system which means it will never allow an outcome that is detrimental to the system. Maybe there will be cascading effects as you suggest. I've got my doubts. I'm sure you are right that we need hope to motivate most people. As for me, I'm convinced we will have a major collapse of society and the revolution will be built from those ashes. So I suppose we agree in that the revolution will be bigger, better, and faster the more folks who are educated on Left ideas and the activism you suggest will spread those ideas.

So...what sort of cop are you?

Thanks for refueling my revolutionary fire!!

This is dope and exactly the reason why I joined the DSA. Also this is what keeps me in DSA organizing internally for the things I want the org to do!!

I fear losing my religious freedom.... I read Solzhenitsyn. I wonder what is this guy's position is on The Orthodox Christian Church. I support Putin.

I don't like the idea of mentioning the word Revolution! I was born in a country that has emerged from the revolution. Thus the word revolution is, for me, necessarily associated with arms and violence. I know you haven't meant something violent, but it would be easier to remove this word from a title. One more thing - why do you show pictures of Lenin when you talk of something positive? His political system wouldn't bring something better. Probably even nothing good!

Thank you, this was much needed and beneficial.

That’s a wonderful idea actually, I can provide the domain, if someone can provide some other help?

I just joined the Pensacola chapter of the DSA and will be attending events soon. It's small and new but actually getting involved has made me much more optimistic. I'm glad you decided to join the fight!

Ok. You have convince me. The next group meeting they have for the DSA I will check out. It’s like that old saying goes, “how do you know that you don’t like it, if you don’t try it”.

really needed a video like this, felt pretty bummed out today because of everything happening. can’t wait to check this out once I get home later ☮️

Growing up, I was described as the upbeat fun kid. I was always optimistic. The past few years have been bad, but I feel like the last month has been nothing but bad news. I was truly giving up, but this video has given me a clearer more sustainable concept of optimism and how to hold on to it. Thanks so much for all the hard work you do! It really is making a difference!!

Haven’t watched yet but I can tell I need this video. Doomerism at an all time high

Hey! Something that I think would help with this is creating a pipeline for people to come from your (and others'!) leftist content to leftist activism. I think that would help and give a large on-the-ground movement for people to identify with and join up. A leftist activist social media or something, perhaps. (I keep calling it a "socialist social media") Thanks for taking time to read this if you did!
