The Two Futures Of Automation

As more and more jobs become automated and get handed off to machines or AI, it's only natural to think about what our future might look like. Will we have more free time, more time to spend with our friends and families, more time for hobbies and fulfilling activities? Or will the status quo win out and subject us to ever more meaningless work for the sake of squeezing every last penny of profit out of human workers? Let's consider both options!

It is easy to envisage a utopian future where in every country the workers own the means of production, but what this means exactly is not clear even for those who dream of it. Where it has been tried like China, Cuba, North Korea, the workers did not end up owning anything.
