Why Means Testing Is A Terrible Idea

Howdy, comrades! You've probably heard about means testing during past presidential campaigns. Maybe you've even been on the receiving end of a liberal lecture about how important means testing is. But what exactly does this practice accomplish? In this week's video, we're diving into the philosophy of means testing and figuring out what it's good for, if anything. Hope you enjoy!

Basics should all be free, you want to keep capitalism fine, gov can pay for them (better than paying walmart and oil subsidies) - non-luxury studio and 1 beds, basic raw food (non exotic fruit/veg, grains, chicken), annual doctor and dentist visits with necessary medications, plain clothes. Well off people would not downgrade their lives to get free basics, but people in need could just have these things so they didn't wind up in emergency care, or getting assaulted on the street, or with holes in their shoes... This would help college students, single parents, adults just starting their careers... And it would likely be cheaper, basic stuff all being paid through one place is really cheap to run, and it doesn't cost much. I'm well off now, but I've been hungry before, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and with how wealthy our country is there is absolutely no reason to allow this level of cruelty.

It's something a lot of more comfortable Americans don't realize, you have to be absolutely destitute to qualify for most aid in the US. An awful lot of people also haven't registered that the welfare system ceased to exist in freaking 1996. I'm happy to explain to people who complain about all "those people who live off welfare for years" that their are five-year maximums to receive any kind of aid anymore there are several million things a person can do to get disqualified from receiving any kind of aid. Oh, and aid programs have always excluded single adults, you have to have kids to qualify for most any kind of help. Obamacare actually addressed that so that had to be killed asap...that and the program was supported by taxes on the wealthy. Can't have that! The only people in the US who are living off all kinds of welfare for years are rich people.
