Is Capitalism Really Human Nature?

Howdy, friends! These days, at least in the West, there seems to be a consensus that capitalism is just "the way things are." Everyone from capitalist economists to your dentist to your weird uncle is firmly convinced that humans are just hard-wired for capitalism. Let's explore that idea. Hope you enjoy!

Hi JT! I've been following you and supporting (when Patreon allows) for some time now. I know several "leftish" folks that like you, and I hope you can reach them where I cannot- on the topic of "why we should support AES states". They constantly call me a tankie for it, and I'm not good at articulating why they are hypocrites for not doing so. I know it's tough with your channel's focus on avoiding words and topics that make American brains go durrr, but I feel like you (or maybe Yugo?) Are the one best suited to make it digestible to a "left-leaning" audience. Help me, obi-wan tankobi, you're my only hope!

The point about bartering not really being a big thing in the span of human history is a fascinating point. Chalk up another idea based on capitalist propaganda that I should take a...second thought about. I'll have to check out that book recommendation on the history of debt.

I would suggest you do a video on the successful socialist institutions in the U.S. They include the North Dakota State Bank, which enabled that state to have the nation’s lowest rate of home foreclosures during the housing crisis. North Dakota also has a state operated grain elevator. It and the bank are very popular in the state. Another American socialist phenomenon are credit unions, particularly those which grew out of the Mutual Aid Societies of freed Black Americans in the 1800s.
