Yars Revenge NES Graphics Hack And Bug Fix
Added 2023-01-23 17:48:06 +0000 UTCThis is a graphics hack and bug fix for the Nice Code FOAC Plug And Play port of Yar's Revenge for the NES. Pretty sure the original ROM was extracted from an Atari Flashback or similar plug-and-play device, but has been converted to fully work on NES hardware as a 16x8 24KB NROM. I've added a fancy title screen, fixed some missed sound channel initialization subroutines that cause the game to soft-lock when you die and some color palette glitches that make the game impossible to play at later levels. I've tested it up to Level 15 or so at this point and it seems to work fine. Right now the end of stage explosion uses garbled up parts of the title screen, which I may replace but I think it looks pretty neat as is.

I'm really happy I was able to fix most of the weird egregious glitches in the original bootleg Chinese ROM lol. There's still some tweaking I want to do with it but I cleaned up all the soft locks and gameplay graphics glitches.
