IMPORTANT Discussion about the future of my channel
Added 2020-05-19 00:41:59 +0000 UTCHello everyone, I hope you're all doing well in these troubled times...Due to certain drama going on on Youtube regarding a CERTAIN Anime reaction channel (I won't say their name) that has received severe criticism for violating the copyright law by making full uncut/unedited Anime reactions (plus other controversies...), I wanted to ask about what your thoughts are on timer reactions where no episodes are shown on the screen but a timer is given so you can sync up their reaction with the episode which you can find yourself?
After much research on what counts as fair use, I've realised that I haven't complied with the copyright law as I include the majority (not all) of the Anime episodes in my reactions although I do provide a lot of commentary throughout but I'm thinking of changing the way I do reactions for when I do return to Youtube just so that it becomes fair use content. Please do not be too alarmed, I would not suddenly change my way of doing reactions if the majority are not happy with timer reactions or severely cut reactions but I DEFINITELY do need to change something about the way I react so that it falls under fair use now.
I will be discussing and confirming things in a month's time when I do return to Youtube (probably) but for now, I just want to raise discussion about this so that I can get your opinions about timer reactions and overall thoughts about the copyright law and/or your own suggestions. Although I would highly suggest you watch if you haven't already about Rachael Messer's videos about what is fair use when it comes to Anime reactions.
I have been doing reactions since 2016 and I don't believe anyone has really criticised the way that I have done reactions as I have managed to get away from Youtube strikes and I suppose also because I have provided sufficient entertainment by including lengthy Anime reactions but it was never my intention to hurt the Anime companies by including the majority of the episodes in my reactions. It's not something that I really thought about and I feel that some other Anime reaction channels are also not well informed when it comes to fair use.
I know that timer reactions require more effort on your part as it requires needing to find the episodes. Luckily, I have a whole folder on One Piece episodes so you can easily download it and sync it up with my reaction. I'm going to be honest and say that I really don't like editing as doing a lot of editing just to sync up little bits of an episode with my reaction is not an idea I'm on board with even though that's the style that most Anime reaction channels go for. It would take like TWO HOURS for me...It also will take much longer to do than timer reactions and they probably will still risk getting striked by Anime companies therefore, I think timer reactions are my best option. That being said, I'm not saying that I will definitely do timer reactions as I would like to hear several opinions about this before making any decision regarding my channel. Perhaps there can be a middle ground where the majority of the episode is not seen visually but at least you can see the subtitles... but I don't know.
For the future of my channel, I don't know what to do exactly because I know if I change the way I do things, it will cause some upset from some people and the others I think will understand due to the copyright law. Regardless, I love these Anime companies and wish they would get paid more for what they do for us and if I continue to do these redirects with the majority of the episodes in my reactions then I would be continuing to break the copyright law and could eventually get caught and striked for doing this and affect these companies financially. It is a bad practice that I no longer want to partake in and it was out of ignorance that this was done in the first place...
Let me know your thoughts on what kind of reactions you like including timer reactions such as Anneke Jordan's One Piece reactions for a point of reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h59Bc9kpBhw&t=52s She's a good friend of mine.

I'd prefer you stick with doing reactions the same way you've been doing. But if you must change then doing reactions with a timer is way better. It's less work for you and I don't miss any moments.
