Locke's paralysis cured was the equivalent of meeting God face to face for John, so from that he extrapolates that everyone has to stay in the Island for their own miracle to happen and many did let their demons go, but towards the end there he felt the bloody violence was needed. After all, the freighter was there to kill them all.

There's some goofy fun stuff in there, as well as some interesting mythology stuff. I certainly think it's as much a part of the show as the actual episodes.
