[Uncut] Game of Thrones - 8x5 The Bells - Full Reaction

Comments

literal slave masters not children

sakuloa

Shitty writing to end this series.

CuddleBuddee

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at how many knuckle-dragging troglodytes are defending that garbage, but it is still sad to see.

A L

Dany going mad I can see. But even mad they needed to give us SOME reason she targeted not the red keep or the soldiers, but the civilians of the city, no matter how minor or slight. Maybe they save the killing of her second dragon for after the bells are ringing(give Euron something better to do when he reaches shore then fight Jamie. Maybe he fires a damaged but intact one when he comes ashore). Maybe the people start cheering for them as liberators, but they start cheering for Jon Snow, seemingly loving him more then her before they even know he’s a Targareon. Or (my favourite idea)maybe Jamie is successful in getting Cersei out, so when Dany flys to the red keep enraged, looking for but unable to find her because she’s fled, she starts burning the streets to try and catch the fleeing and hidden foe(unaware that she’s left on water and not through the city). It’s not the fact that they made a change in the character, but that they did it without any event in the story to act as the catalyst for that change. I can’t imagine no one mentioned this to the writers( I find it hard to believe with so many involved in production that it was never once brought up once by anyone), so assuming someone/anyone brought it up to them, the fact they still went ahead thinking it was a good idea tells me that they aren’t nearly as good at writing story as they are at adapting it. I’m starting to wonder if their non-involvement in the upcoming GOT spinoff of less about them wanting to move on then it is others not wanting them attached to it.

Todd “Canuck” Schmuck

Then take out the red keep instead of random civilians. It's a complete character assassination of Dany. It was an action of a crazy woman when Dany has never been crazy. Ruthless? Vengeful? Angry AF? Sure! But never crazy. This episode literally ruined the show for me .

Lurkingposter

what I described wasn't foreshadowing, foreshadowing is a character talking about Targaryan's and suddenly Jon walks into the scene.. These are actual events and moments where she wanted to act by extreme measures and was held back by advice that ended up failing her at great personal cost... at some point after repeated failures you loose faith in your advisors and trust on yourself, and regress back to those extreme ideas that you were restrained from... That, right there, is literally a description of a character progression path.

I didn't like this episode when i watched it live, but after having time to think about it i dont hate it. What i hate is what lead up to this episode. All of the stuff unexplained and rushed. If this episode came as like season 9 episode 9 it could have gone down in history as one of the best episodes of TV. But because it was so rushed it seems out of place and nonsensical. Danaerys's descent into madness just seems so forced instead of earned like I wanted it to be. If it was earned throughout previous episodes in season 7 and 8, a season 9 with this type of Danaerys would have been amazing.

Griff

Eh... no. He followed Roberts orders and tried to kill Danaerys. If he was truly for house targaryen he would have found a way around doing that.

Griff

You can dick ride the series as much as you want mate. I know this is what grrm wants, read the comment again I raised issue with d&d rushing through the show and expecting us to believe that a woman who was so good for 7 seasons can suddenly turn evil in the span of one episode.

Jay Singh

Their line is legit "Fire and Blood" how you guys surprised lol

Loltna

It was rushed, that's no doubt. But it was in no way out of nowhere. We've seen this coming for a long time. I with they had 2 or 3 more episodes so they could truly flesh out how far she falls, but they did pretty well with the episodes they had imo.

Tim Ott

That was reasonable though. Fuck the masters

Sophie

Even if we ignore the foreshadowing and the past instances when her advisers stopped her from burning cities. Basically, she didn't trust the bells. Tyrion told her about the bells of surrender and he has been failing her nonstop, everyone was. There was only one way she could make sure the throne is hers. Burn it all down. The story was rushed, but this is a true game of thrones ending.

SulHus

He was for house targaryen from the start. Every king he plotted against is for the benefit of that house.

SulHus

Yes, thank you, completely agree. She has been constantly losing her inner battle little by little, especially since crossing the narrow sea. And yes, she does start feeling entitled, which has been showing alot. Varys always has a reason for what he does, and he was right. He constantly watches and analyzing and he saw this coming, or at least very probable of happening. She has been losing people around her very recently and still hasn't gotten the support she thought she'd have. Jorah was her champion and Missandei was like her sister I feel. This has been coming. Not a complete surprise, but didnt expect her to go that far.

Sou saetern

I know you're not throwing shade at my boy Varys. My guy lived his life entirely for the people.

Brook

Just because they foreshadow an event doesn't excuse the awful writing. Dany said she does not want to be queen of the ashes, she told the Unsullied to harm no children in s3, she killed bad people in the slave citites, and only attacked her enemies in westeros. But in a few episodes she goes from all that to the complete opposite.

Nick R

Zee man.. no hints of being mad? really? "I will crucify the masters, I will set their fleet afire, kill every last one of their soldiers and RETURN THEIR CITIES TO THE DIRT"- season 6

n p

How can the women who killed her brother do this? OMG

omar martell

Out of character if you are a moron who hasn't followed her whole arc this is exactly what GRRM wanted.

Aidan C

GOT is booty cheek doo doo streaks. Awful series

L

"I will crucify the masters, I will set their fleet afire, kill every last one of their soldiers and RETURN THEIR CITIES TO THE DIRT"... nope never been crazy

n p

It's amazing how oblivious some people are to what's been right in front of them since at the very least season 2. Just shows you have to remember how inattentively a lot of people enjoy the medium of TV.

TeddyBearBonfire

oh please stop trying to pretend that this came out of nowhere, when she wanted to retake slavers bay she wanted to burn them all and had to be restrained by Tyrion, when she landed in Westeros from the very beginning Tyrion has been the one restraining her from burning cities, she's constantly been being restrained by advice that ended up failing her... When she burned the Tarley's Tyrion was already showing concern towards her... It's been there all along.

n p

Hasn't Danny said many times before that she should take her dragons and burn kings landing down. the only reason she hasn't is because her loyal advisers would talk her out of it. Now that she feels alone and cant trust anyone she's finally doing things the way she always wanted...burn it all down. She hasn't turned mad...its always been inside of her imo.

Theodore C

For me its not about the fact of denearies going mad.. lol its the actual fact of how dafuk is it possible like wtf?? first time a early scorpion used one shot one hit.. second time they use it 3 shots 3 dead we were builded up to beliave the scorpions were op and with so many ofd them and they didnt do sht.. completely afk...... also dothraki and unsolid multiplier omegalul... also fantastic effect and record but not the best story line.. also it felt really forced and fast paced not at all the got we know...

Thewaycer

The uncut version doesn’t run in sync with the episode for me, the reaction seems a little slower so I have to pause the episode a little every few minutes. Anyone else got this issue?

James Misson

You’re defending dumb shit. This was literally forced. Dany had no hints of turning mad at any point consistently prior to literally last week. The writing sucks. It’s okay.

Zee

If people think this didnt make sense, they havent been paying attention.

Bisibia

Not to mention how she was treated in the earlier seasons and everything she has lost while being in Westeros.

MCHL

This episode was far from bad writing IMO, it was more "Fans" lacking to understand Dany's character as a whole and not realising she was fated and has always been the "Mad Queen" since the first episode, before she was even considered a Queen. (When I say "fated" I'm talking about she literally has Mad King in her blood, her being a product of generational inbreeding Dany has 75% of her fathers genes making it more likely for her to be exactly like him.) She basically Little Fingered her way to the top by manipulating and lying to everyone about how good a Queen she was going to be. Gaining trust, respect, a following and an Army. She had no real intentions to be what she said she'll be (Until she met Jon). She has made irrational Mad Queen like decisions before, just not to this extent. She would have made many more if it hadn't been for her advisers barely talking her out of it. This was one of the first times she has had the floor to herself with no one to tell her otherwise and she took the opportunity and let her true colours shine. Jon could have changed this, but y'all know what happened. Thats my take on this ep.

MCHL

"I'm glad she didn't have to burn children" - lolz

Josh B

As a Danny fan from the beginning I don't get that. I'm really disappointed. This feels forced a lot!!!!!!!! On no end is this her character. They exaggerated and forced this on her and on uns. I hate it. You can end a show and you can ruin a show. This is ruining it and not ending it. Sorry this was awfully written.

Jenny Schymanski

Watching the Normies be gradually disappointed as this episode went on is vastly interesting

Zee

So nobody saw this coming? They didn't undo everything... they had always hinted that she could go mad. She's always made drastic decisions based off of her anger and her advisors had always tried to temper that. Go back and rewatch the series. I'm more surprised at Jaime. Over the seasons he was loyal>conflicted>then completely left cersei, only to go back to cersei in the second to last episode. He literally had the reverse ark of Danny and completely did a 180 at the end. Daenerys character ark wasn't from kind woman with nothing, to kind Queen with everything. It was kind woman with nothing, to mad Queen with everything. Your focusing on the wrong things and your acting as if she still maintained the same qualities throughout the seasons. The more she won, the more entitled she felt. Towards the end her goal wasn't to win the throne for the people as it was in the beginning, it was to win the throne because she felt it was owed to her. This episode completed her ark if anything.

Phillip D Piris

How do you ruin 7 season character arc for Jaime & Dany.. like.. you only had 6 episodes yet they did it.

Zee

I expected her to conver to the mad queen and descend to this level, want to rule by fear since there is no love from ppl like essos. But as I told everyone it's really rushed. GRR has been preparing for her to turn this way in a well paced manner not like this rushed bs. I'm not mad for her to turn out like this, because it's quiet fitting for GOT story in my opinion, but how rushed the last 2 seasons were.

What is love

how can something be this shit? is that even possible? suddenly Dexter's ending is a masterpiece.

Though i have always felt Dany wouldn't be the one for the the iron throne, they needed more time to develop her descent in to madness. There were signs from the beginning sure but it still felt like she seemingly flipped quite suddenly between the past episode. It's a big leap to go from wanting to crush your enemies and conquer their lands to wanting to crush your enemies and burn their innocent citizens(the ones who would have been your citizens) in front of them just to let them know you are not to be fucked with.

Mord

I hate how they undid 8 seasons of Jaime's character development. Shame. I hate how Tyrion betrayed Varys, one of the few people who were good to him when no one else was. He saved his life goddamit! Shame. I hate how Daenerys pulled more Dothraki and Unsullied out of her ass even though nearly everyone died in Battle for Winterfell. Shame. I hate that Arya AGAIN survived only because of her plot armor. Shame. I hate how the scorpions suddenly started missing after hitting 3 SHOTS IN A FUCKING ROW in the last episode. Shame. I hate how stupidly Euron behaved in this episode and his idiotic departure. Shame. I hate how the hyped Golden Company died in an instant without putting up a fight. Shame. I hate how the northern soldiers completely ignored Jon and started slaughtering and raping people for no reason after some foreigner blinded by revenge threw a first blow. Shame. AND FINALLY - I've been a Daenerys hater for a long time, but what they did to her in this episode is extremaly stupid. It came almost out of nowhere, Daenerys would have never done something like that. SHAAAAAME! Fuck D&D. The writing was HORRIBLE this season, but this episode finally did it for me. There are so many plot holes, so many dumb moments... I don't care anymore about the finale to be honest.

Nikodem

Dumb & dumber ruined this season

Kasun

I'm scared to watch tbh.

Heru Muharrar

My expectations were subverted - did not expect this level of poor writing this season

Nuptup

The leaks mentioned 'Dany executing people' I thought she's executing high ranking officials after surrender. Never in my wildest dreams did I think she'll kill innocent civilians because that was a very out of charecter decision. But according to DND it just needs 1 fkin episode for Dany to do a complete 180 from being Mhysa to mad queen I guess.

Jay Singh

D&D. Killing the show one episode at a time.. just to eventually go on and mess up the SW franchise later.
