You're missing the point that Clarke has to live with what's shes done. And so does her people. And Lexa knows that that's punishment enough.

2019-05-13 15:40:45 +0000 UTC- I agree that this would have made Lexa look weak to her people. Probably made Lexa really respect Clarke though - Clarke and Murphy have an interesting dynamic - in my opinion, episodes 2x11-2x16 are the best of the season. Can’t wait til you get there!

This was the first time Clarke had to bear something for her people. The start of her making the tough decisions and having to live with them.
