She snapped. Not crazy exactly. She didn't plan to do it but reacted in the moment. She has "other syndrome" really badly

2019-05-16 03:03:43 +0000 UTCIf you pay attention to Dany's savageries in the past, it makes sense that she'd lose it, although I think the show didn't make portray her descent properly. I also think that the amount of damage she did was unrealistic to her character, despite the wildfire caches exploding.
2019-05-15 03:26:58 +0000 UTCI think compilations like this help to flesh out the gems throughout the series of her mad queen transformation..it could have been fleshed out a little more clearly in the episode, but they have been teasing this development for a while: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LduDz8MnCpk

2019-05-15 02:48:09 +0000 UTCI enjoyed this episode. Dany’s turn made sense to me. Dany showed signs in earlier seasons when things did not go her way. Her advisors talked her out of something’s before she went too far. Now either her advisors are either dead or she doesn’t trust them anymore. My only complaint is this season could have longer.

2019-05-15 00:48:36 +0000 UTCi guess this means that fans were right about season 8, episode 3, and 4 as well
Daniel
2019-05-14 23:34:21 +0000 UTCVery simple, season 7 should have exclusively been about Dany vs Cersei and resolved the throne plot while season 8 should have been entirely about the white walkers. With how they’ve done it and by resolving the greater threat three episodes in, they took all of the wind out of the series and as can be seen by the reactions (and the dreadful rotten tomatoes scores since), that decision in episode 3 finally broke the audience and they just can’t get behind these subsequent episodes.

2019-05-14 21:27:48 +0000 UTCMaybe. Another thing to note is that I think Dany felt somewhat robbed of the vengeance she always wanted. If you think about it, most of the people who wronged her family (Hoster Tully, Jon Arryn, Robert Baratheon, Eddard Stark, and Tywin Lannister) were all dead before Dany even came to Westeros, and she was never given that violent, visceral catharsis that she had dreamt of. I think "crazy" might be the wrong word, but Dany has spent her entire life neck deep in brutality. She spent her childhood in exile, suffering through Viserys' abuse for years, all while listening to him preach to her about the might of the Targaryans. Regardless of his eventual fate, I think he had a definite effect on her worldview and personality. After that she was sold as a possesion to the Dothraki, which gave her a hatred for slavery, and fueled many of her decision in Essos. After the death of Khal Drogo, Dany acted as a conqueror. Her goals were always achieved through violent means, but this time the violence was of her own making rather than something she suffered through. Through retributive justice (fire and blood), she was rewarded with the deep love that the freed slaves had for her, and it reinforced her belief that she would make a great monarch through the use of that same retributive justice. Since coming to Westeros, Dany has lost Jorah, Missandei, Rhaegal, Viseryon, the Martells, and the Tyrels. She had to be confronted with the idea that she was not a saviour to the people of Westeros, as she had been in Essos, despite helping save everyone from the Army of the Dead. The events at the beginning of this episode were basically the last straw. Varys betrayed her. Jon could no longer love her the way she wanted him to. And the people of King's Landing did not rejoice at her arrival, instead they fled in terror. It's tragic, and I'm sure that with more time it could've been done better. Personally I still think it made sense, and in my opinion this is the best episode of season 8 so far, which admittedly isn't saying much. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and more than anything I hope the finale is satisfying :)

2019-05-14 19:06:57 +0000 UTCI feel a lot of the problems of the last two seasons could have been solved if they had the kings landing battle before the winterfell battle. Btw, none of three options are indicative of how I feel about the episode.

2019-05-14 18:44:48 +0000 UTCSo glad people see this, the terrible plot development in this season is atrocious...so many choices in direction that just dont make sense
Gregory Aguilar
2019-05-14 18:20:54 +0000 UTCNo. It literally doesnt make any sense logically or for the character. There is a difference between ruling through fear and being hated. To rule through fear she could of just destroyed the Red Keep and kill Cersei in the most public and gruesome way possible. Burning innocent civilians and retreating soldiers makes no sense and it's a good way to lose your allies. It's something only a crazy person would do. Dany has never been shown to be crazy and why would she go crazy when she wins the battle. This writing is utter garbage.

2019-05-14 18:08:02 +0000 UTCIt's not the worst show I've watched recently. It's just ok. I think the problem is the earlier seasons were son damn good. It makes ok not good enough

2019-05-14 17:22:54 +0000 UTCThe people who think that Daenerys' turn to madness is out of character clearly haven't been paying attention. I get being upset that your favourite character did something horrible, but this makes complete sense. Dany has essentially come to the conclusion that the only way for her to rule Westeros is through fear. Burning King's Landing is her way of inspiring fear across the continent in order to secure her authority. It was definitely fucked up, but completely in line with her intention to "take what is [hers] through fire and blood". I think it probably could've been done better if these last two seasons had the full 20 episodes. There could've been more of a build up to this, but there is no doubt in my mind that this was always the plan.

2019-05-14 12:13:02 +0000 UTCI feel like people are a bit too freaked out at dany's actions and i agree her going straight to the keep would make more sense. But people are shrugging off way too hard how much she actually lost, she was def thinking everyone was against her in the end which they were so her actions made sense. Ultimately she lost the iron throne and everyone who believed in her (since the beggining) before she even got a chance to prove herself. Some stuff like Cersei dying with Jamie i always knew was going to happen. Jamie always loved Cersei despite everything so i don't know why people thought otherwise so that's fine for me. However the previous 2 episodes were much worse in my opinion, failing to set this one up properly and butchering the azor ahai and night king plot which was extremely built up all the way to a sudden stop involving everyone.

2019-05-14 06:01:52 +0000 UTCI never thought in a million years I would answer that it was terrible but I am so disappointed. The show is amazing in cinematography, acting, score, attention to details ect... and yet the story and writing is completely lacking. I don’t mind about the end result but the path to get there is so rushed, filled with holes and feels ultimately pointless. The story and the characters feel so dumbed down compared to where it used to be. Ultimately these last episodes just feel like bad fanfiction and I find it heartbreaking that we got there with such a great show. I really was one of the biggest fan !!!

2019-05-14 02:17:57 +0000 UTCI agree with PS. Nailed it on the head. It's just rushed. All the plot points make sense. Watchers of the show are just wishcasting what they wanted with their favorite characters. I forgot which Normie said it but in the reactions someone said "That's not what we wanted". Has GoT ever given us what we wanted? Isn't that fan-service if they gave us what we wanted? Rushed definitely. Shot beautifully. Plot points solid. Writing a tad weak.

2019-05-14 01:54:05 +0000 UTCThe plotline of Dany going mad for power is fine but it feels out of order and rushed here. Feels like this seige should happen before they deal with the Night King.

2019-05-14 01:39:15 +0000 UTCI have less problem with Daenerys and her turn than I did with Cersei's death. We spent 8 seasons watching Cersei be the most hateful cunt on television knowing, in the end, she was going to get what was coming to her. Instead, she gets an almost happy death by dying in the arms of the only person that ever truly loved her. That's not a cool way for such a villain to go out.

2019-05-14 00:45:56 +0000 UTCHBO would have loved for GoT to go on for many seasons, D&D were over it and decided to finish it off in 13 episodes, that was the biggest mistake imo as it meant we were getting essentially a summary of the final act as opposed to the entire story, meaning a lot of character development and narrative buildup needed to be skipped

2019-05-14 00:01:31 +0000 UTCEveryone has literally hyped this show up so much that it has no way of delivering something that meets expectations. That being I think they could have dragged it out into another season and showed a more progressive decent into danny becoming the mad queen

2019-05-13 22:29:17 +0000 UTCThere are no more books to be released, to give the book credit and not the show is old now as well. All i remember in the last book a bunch of meandering chapters I hardly gave two shits about. They spent 80%+ of books running around Essos having one inconsequential thing follow the next.

2019-05-13 22:26:14 +0000 UTCHer wrath has always been on offer but she was offered some top class levels of fuckery against her. She came to land where she couldnt trust anyone, and every new relation she made let her down. When the Quartheen messed with her in a similar way, we were only celebrating them getting their comeuppance. But when its Varys, Sansa, Tyrion, Cerceis turn, fuck dany. She went off the deep end hard tho, and has lost any redemption. But I would argue Tyrion, Varys, Sansa only managed to manifest their worst fears.

2019-05-13 22:22:55 +0000 UTCI liked it! But I also believed Danny would turn, I thought there were many signs throughout the 7 seasons. So it wasnt out of left field for me, maybe that's why. And I've always been Sansa ftw, so anything that sets up those pieces I am down for 😂

2019-05-13 21:39:01 +0000 UTC"Dany has always had bad tendencies (like hanging all the masters)" but the Masters were responsible for nailing slaves to posts? They can't be compared to helpless innocents in KL. Her oldest and most trusted advisor is Jorah, who always gave council for her to do the right thing (make peace with Sansa, keep faith in Tyrion, etc.). Then he dies and she honors his memory by...killing all the innocents? "She said she wanted to burn Kings Landing down from the start"? No she didn't. If you're referring to her "i will burn cities to the ground" stuff she talked about in the earlier seasons, that was said to bluff her way into Qarth. She has always been pro-smallfolk. The initial plan in Season 7 was for Dany to hit hard and storm the Red Keep. Of course she needed a less brutal method to getting the throne and getting the smallfolk with her, and she had her golden opportunity. She inspired the fear needed for no one to oppose her and did it with zero civilian casualties, and somehow ruins that chance and then some. " She litteraly said "i choose fear" this episode because it's clear that Jon will never love her the same anymore so now she really has nobody left. " - What happened to her Khalasar all being her bloodriders? Her most trusted bodyguards? What happened to Grey Worm, who's loyalty is unwavering as is the rest of the Unsullied, who were given a choice and chose to follow her? And most importantly...why is she adapting to her environment like she did with the Dothraki? She knows the North is stubborn about independence but the idea of marriage is off the cards for some reason (they don't have to be in love for it to work, Jon being duty-bound would do it knowing it unites the Kingdoms and maintains peace). D&D forgot or didn't care for these things which means the characters forgot/didn't care, which makes all the bad things that happen seem that much more dumb and contrived

2019-05-13 21:07:17 +0000 UTCI honestly liked it, because they have been building towards this for the whole show. Dany has always had bad tendencies (like hanging all the masters) but she had people around her that loved her and guided her. These last 2 seasons has been all about her losing that. She came to her motherland and nobody likes her (she loses all her new allies that do), jorah dies, misandei dies, another of her children dies. She litteraly said "i choose fear" this episode because it's clear that Jon will never love her the same anymore so now she really has nobody left. She has given up and given in to all the impulses that were always there. She said she wanted to burn Kings Landing down from the start, but didn't because she listened to her advisers.
Frank
2019-05-13 20:44:39 +0000 UTCIt was barely foreshadowed, I would say she was mostly being rash in the instances I've seen people mention, but almost every time she was pulled back by good advisors. I don't know what happened to Tyrion...didn't he used to be good with words and ideas? Maybe making him her hand was really the biggest mistake she ever made. Anyway, I can't even bear to watch the next episode, I agree with everything you said. I hope the actors, cinematographer and Ramin Djawadi gets Emmy nods/wins for this. It's not their fault what happened to the show; they did the best they could.

2019-05-13 20:14:54 +0000 UTCNo doubt a lot of the things that happen here will also happen in the books, but that gives ZERO excuse for the garbage build-up (or lack of build-up) to those moments. GRRM specifically writes his stories so that he doesn't plan ahead 10 paces, rather he puts himself in the position of each character and sees where their personality and experiences take them ('gardening' type of writing). For Dany, right after she showed the Lannister forces that they had no chance, her feeling should have been one of relief rather than further anger. She had burning Cersei left and walking up to the Iron Throne to become Queen. It was literally two simple steps away from her and she goes the completely opposite direction for shock value and nothing more. Red Wedding and Ned's death were shocking, but after the fact they were expected. Ned was an honorable man in a city of snakes, and Robb despite his great military successes made many political blunders such as executing Lord Karstark or marrying Talisa. No book material means D&D don't get their hands held by GRRM and they're exposed pants-down for being hack writers.

2019-05-13 20:00:44 +0000 UTCThis isn't true. There is a budget for the entire season, and the actors are paid per episode. Having longer, but fewer episodes gets you the actors cheaper, leaving more money for all of the effects and large battles.

2019-05-13 19:58:25 +0000 UTCCersei's death was satisfying for me, watch her emotions change slowly and to finally see it set in that she was going to die was nice. Plus she died with Jamie which was a good moment for him. Besides compared to Dany Cersei is a angel.
Garrett
2019-05-13 19:55:05 +0000 UTCTyrion's turned into an idiot, Arya has unbreakable plot armour, Jamie forsaking Cersei for Brienne meant nothing, and while Dany turning into a mad queen was foreshadowed it was executed poorly and felt like a full 180 from the character we've watched up to this point. Sucks because everything else from directing to music is so good.

2019-05-13 19:27:36 +0000 UTCThis season especially has turned into a dumpster fire. All these years of character development just thrown in the toilet. Bran and the Night King, Jamie, Tyrion, Danny all wasted and a big part of it is because they decided to rush the ending. If we had another 8 episodes with two full seasons they could have developed what they were going for quite a bit better.
Ashgar77
2019-05-13 19:18:22 +0000 UTCNo. It was a choice by Benioff and Weiss to have the seasons be this short. They flat out stated that HBO wanted more episodes. They said HBO wanted 10 episodes for both seasons 7 and 8 and that they were putting their money where their mouth was to give them whatever they needed to see it through. Benioff and Weiss *chose* to make the seasons shorter because they didn’t think they needed any more to tell their story. HBO didn’t want it to end yet. So, whatever you think of the show, good or bad, the length and number of episodes for these last seasons was entirely a writing choice made by the showrunners.

2019-05-13 18:49:15 +0000 UTCI thought it was great. Sure the turn would have benefited more by showing Dany being more and more ruthless but she had moments every season where she wanted to go to the extreme and she had the advisors that she trusted talk her down from it. With them dead and gone and her perceived notion that everyone she had was turning on her, she didn't have those voices that she trusted to talk sense into her. Tyrion has been taking L's and messing up for two seasons now. Jon told the secret of his heritage when she begged him not too. And she never begs. She just snapped and said I'll rule by fear. She looked around and she said these people don't love me. So they'll fear me instead.

2019-05-13 18:25:54 +0000 UTCI would prefer that you don't make assumptions on what critics might have assumptions especially not with "all of these complaints". That devalues your own points and makes your post look rather polemic. I was a fan of the show, i don't care for "book accuracy". I liked the first two episodes this season. I also always predicted Dany's turn into mad queen (there where enough hints in previous seasons) and I really liked that idea. I could have even accepted Arya killing the night king before the actual finale of the show. But the way they rushed and executed all of this is laughable. Plotholes over plotholes, throwing themes of the past seasons and every bit of realism away for hollow spectacle, fan service or "shock value". Characters behaving completely out of character, lots of convenient coincidences just to make the next set piece happen and more plotarmor than ever. The writers just kinda gave up. It is not that i want a "happy ending" or any specific ending, I just want to be the ending believable.

2019-05-13 18:23:52 +0000 UTCThe shots were cool but I’ve been saying to all my friends that Dany is my least favorite character in the show and this episode proved my point 100000%

2019-05-13 18:22:53 +0000 UTCRushed but consistent. Also the assumption Jaimie character was supposed to be redeemed. He like everybody wasn't a good person. He admitted he would've killed children for her. I feel like that's more personal cause ppl like the actor/character. But GOT has never been like that. His death was fitting with Cersei as well as Clegane.
Dino Morte
2019-05-13 18:22:35 +0000 UTCIt was great given the limitations of this shortened season. It's clear that they could have used more episodes for this season to better develop things like Dany's descent, but on its own merits I think this was the best episode of the season and one of the best episodes of the series.
Tom Evans
2019-05-13 18:22:03 +0000 UTCThe mad queen has been hinted and foreshadowed all throughout the show just the delivery(writing for the 180) felt rushed to a lot of ppl. Also the whole this isn't GRR but D&D's plot so now everybody has a biased towards the season(s) in general. If u really sit there nd think Dany's turn makes perfect sense with all the loss she's suffered and genetics of madness, just the delivery and emphasis on innocent lives and her being the good guy made it like "wow this came out of nowhere character ruined". Like they really emphasized thousands of innocents to make Dany look even worse. I still don't want her to die but don't mean I support it lmao
Dino Morte
2019-05-13 18:10:47 +0000 UTCAll of these complaints are based on an assumption of the characters how we would like to see them (Jaime’s ‘redemption’, Danny as the heroine), but no matter what, GOT, both in show and book, have shown that it isn’t interested in things being that cut and dry. Jaime is redeemed in some way, but he is not w/r/t his sister/twin/lover, Danny ‘wins’ but sacrifices herself to what was fear in playing the Game. This is all consistent. Rushed maybe, but consistent.

2019-05-13 17:42:00 +0000 UTCI enjoyed the episode. Coming into season 8 I was worried it would be too predictable. I thought that John would die being the hero killing the Night King and I thought Dany would defeat Cersei and sit on the iron throne as the savior of Westeros. That would have been nice but it also would have been boring. Danys decent into madness was shocking but it always felt like something that could happen. She did a lot of good in Essos but most of it didn't stick. She fucked up big time in Meereen and she basically solved it by attacking the city with her armies/dragons. She left it in the hands of Dario who didn't care about the city or people at all. I feel like at this point in the show slavery has probably returned all throughout Essos. In Westeros Dany tried doing the right thing over and over and she suffered for it. She sacrificed one of her children and half of her armies to save the world basically and no one really seemed to love her for it. She lost Jorah, Missandei and another dragon. After all that loss she was bound to snap. She talked about burning cities to the ground before. She hated Cersie and she blamed the people for following her. She should have stopped after the bells had rung. In her mind she probably thought that would be letting Cersie and everyone that didn't follow her off the hook. She burned the city to make Cersie and the people living there suffer. It was hard to watch obviously but I am really excited to see what will happen in the final episode. "But the Mad King gave his enemies the justice he thought they deserved, and each time, it made him feel powerful and right, until the very end."
Jason Parker
2019-05-13 17:41:46 +0000 UTCWhat the hell are these people talking about? Every "mad" action they say Dany took was, or highly motivated, or something that many other characters in the show would have done. The plot was made in such a rush, that became ridiculous.

2019-05-13 17:41:11 +0000 UTCI wonder if a reason they are making this season so short is so that the books can really hust cover everything the show is missing so forcing us to read the books and maybe coming back to rewatch the season with more context.

2019-05-13 17:39:40 +0000 UTCVisually it was great, narratively it was garbage. It’s so bad it’s even retroactively souring my opinion of the entire show. And I’ve never, literally never, uttered a single negative thing about Game of Thrones before (well except for how they handled Dorne I guess) Golden Company - what was even the point of bringing them into the story? They actually did literally nothing but stand there and die. No epic battle involving them, and they clearly had no sway whatsoever on whose army won regardless. Northern army - I still don’t understand the logic of having the northerners come in and start raping and murdering people. The North is supposed to be better than that, or Jon’s North at least. Tyrion - just wish they’d either give him a win or relegate him to the backseat at this point. I can understand him making mistakes, but my god when was the last time he didn’t have to apologize for his actions? Jamie - he killed the mad king, forever tarnishing his sacred honor and reputation, in order to save the people of kings landing, but he “never really cared about them.” Okay. 🤔 Then he goes to try to save Cersei and they die an underwhelming death together from rubble crushing them. Why bother giving him any form of redemption over the years? Why give him a relationship with Brienne that lasted all of 20 minutes? Cersei’s baby - seems stupid that at no point did Jamie and Euron discuss Cersei’s baby. Like, what a dumb move to set that conflict up and then decide for all three characters to die without ever bringing it to fruition. Greyworm - I get it, but to just start slaughtering people who had just surrendered seems a bit much. But obviously that pales in comparison to a certain someone else... Arya - she’s always been one of my favorites, and I’ve enjoyed every bit of her journey. But unless she’s the one to kill Dany next episode, why did she even come to kings landing? It’s nonsensical that she just gives up on killing Cersei and heads home because the Hound told her to. Dany - her going all mad queen wasn’t like “oh no I didn’t see this coming!” I would have rather they didn’t take her that route, but whatever. What’s absolutely unacceptable is the destruction of her character development over the course of the show. She’s always learning lessons and being told that she’s not like her father, she’s good and kind and gentle. But then as soon as the battles over and the enemy surrenders, she decides “fuck it, let’s just burn all these innocent women and children indiscriminately.” Like if they were just collateral damage from the battle that would be one thing, or even if she snapped during battle and just started burning everyone and everything that would have at least made some amount of sense. But to flip over to evil only AFTER THE BATTLE WAS OVER is indefensible writing. There were plenty of ways to put her into the antagonist role without just turning her into a mass murderer of innocents. Clegane bowl was pretty good, no complaints there. Sad to lose Varys but he’s been pretty useless for a couple seasons now, and I kind of like that he went the same way as Ned; executed by a false monarch for treason because he was trying to make sure people knew who the true heir to the throne was. If next episode wasn’t the series finale I’d just quit watching and wait another decade or two for George to finish the only version of this story that was ever worth a damn. Although now I’m kind of wishing he’d have put the books aside and been more involved with the show, considering the fact that him stepping away did not result in finishing even one book before the end of the show.

2019-05-13 17:26:09 +0000 UTCI needed a 4th option, cause I enjoyed everything except the plot and so I feel like option 3 isn't quite fair but options 1 and 2 are too complimentary.

2019-05-13 17:20:37 +0000 UTCA more gradual descent into madness would have been much more rewarding...a dark journey where we know it ends in fire and blood and yet are transfixed by how Dany's mental state keeps deteriorating. THAT would have been incredible to see, but instead we go from Dany showing signs of madness to - in the span of a few episodes - become genocidal. It's the rush that is the problem, the reason why it feels out-of-character and sudden. And as for the scorpions...it seems like they were out of heat-seeking missiles, or their targeting computers were malfunctioning since they went from lethal in the previous episode to becoming useless here. And jaime completely reverted to his old self by saying "nothing else matthers but us". it seems Brienne didn't leave much of an impression.

2019-05-13 17:13:30 +0000 UTCDanny doing this isn't out of nowhere. Maybe is she lived a happy or decent life. But she literally went from her brothers sex toy, to slave, etc. And literary ever since her brother died they been teasing how fucking not mentally or morally danny isn't all there. People project onto danny of what they want a lot but rewatch her part of the series again and tell me this doesn't make sense. In the end credit show they legit talk about how danny is able to watch every one of her enemies burns with just a straight plane face which is concerning. People watch her just stare at her brother face get melted off and think "oh yea you go girl" instead of "holy fuck something may be wrong with her" yes he was evil but even so i doubt if you were in her position you would just stare at his face melting.
Night
2019-05-13 17:12:37 +0000 UTCDany is not a ruler. Plain and simple. Go back and watch S4, she hated ruling in meereen. No, danny doesnt want to rule, she wants to conquer. In essos she never wanted to stop and lead, she wanted to go from city to city knocking down all who would oppose her. She was brutal in slavers bay but it seemed right because she was brutal towards masters and evil people. She was able to let out her violent impulses because she was seemingly justified in killing the masters. However, there are no masters in Westeros. She can't act on her impulses under a noble cause like freedom. No, her violent acts in Westeros were always going to be in the name of fire and blood. She wanted power and she wanted the throne. She would have hated it though. She would much rather conquer and "break the wheel". The moment she set foot in Westeros she wanted to destroy kings landing. She almost did numerous times but her advisors stopped her. However every plan they came up with failed. Mercy failed just like it always did in meereen, no one fell in line in mereen and there were rebels everywhere. The only support she had was the slaves. She has zero support in westeros. Dany feels no one in kings landing supports her because unlike the slaves in slavers bay, the people of kings landing are doing nothing to help her cause. She feels they are just people supporting a tyrant. She lost litteraly everything and she has finaly realized that her mercy is holding her back. If she wants these people to follow her unconditionally, her last resort has to make people fear her. She snaped because she had no one to help control her violent impulses and she has suffered so much by showing mercy she feels it isnt an option any longer. She went into the battle of kings landing planning to show mercy but sitting on that wall ontop of drogon, she fears her mercy wont be enough to get people to follow her, they'll just want jon when they learn the truth. Mecry never worked so she had to make a spectacle of fear. I also agree with mikey that her bloodlust was not satisfied, she wants to conquer with fire and blood, letting go of her mercy.

2019-05-13 17:08:48 +0000 UTCA stinking pile of garbage! I have never really liked Dany and always felt that she would eventually turn crazy, but wow, the writers actually did her dirty. The whole thing with her was so unconvincing and rushed. If anything, this season made me feel bad for her because of people betraying her and just the fact that she is surrounded by dimwits like Jon and Tyrion. To think that I was once a fan of Tyrion and Jon...gosh, these two characters have become so pointless. We have reached the point where the characters of this show have to tell us how "great" Jon Snow is instead of him demonstrating his greatness. He did nothing this season that would actually justify why he is being touted as an 'oh-so amazing' candidate for the throne. He has been all sorts of dumb, lacks any strategic or analytical skill, and cannot figure out when to keep his mouth shut and when to speak up. He is good with his sword, but that's just it.

2019-05-13 16:58:22 +0000 UTCYeah some of the Normies are saying they’re throwing away her character arc but it’s completely untrue. Yes, the episodes didn’t do a good job this season but Dany was always headed down this path.

2019-05-13 16:55:42 +0000 UTCI give this episode a 8.5/10. Dany has been giving mad queen vibes for a GOOD while. Her aggressiveness towards the need for the throne was super highlighted S7 & S8. The things she's willing to do for it highlighted as back as S2. I think people (including some of the normies in the reaction) are a bit too attached to the character and chose to not see for what Dany was becoming - wishcasting her character to be some angel. I thought Cersi and Jamie's death was suitable. Hound's was epic. Qyburn's was perfect. Vary's a tad bit rushed but it'll do. Of course the books will be more fleshed out because guess what... It's a BOOK! Unlimited budget and time. It's consumed via your imagination, not a screen. It will be hard to disappoint people.

2019-05-13 16:43:39 +0000 UTCIf u go rewatch Dany always been chill when killing people(burning them alive) and Tyrion would stand there like "uhh damn". 2019-05-13 16:34:16 +0000 UTCI think the cinematography was amazing, in particular the Clegane Bowl. The performances were amazing across the board. The actors made excellent work of the dialogue they were given. And therein is the problem I have. The writing was underwhelming.

2019-05-13 16:28:37 +0000 UTCExactly ! Up until that point it looks like she’s just going to fly straight to Cersei but instead burns everything/everyone else without any real reason, and doesn’t even kill Cersei herself in the end.

2019-05-13 16:27:06 +0000 UTCThe 3rd one. Ruined two major character arcs in 2 episodes and gave two big bass uneventful deaths. Jon and Tyrion are pointless. Arya is just there... ugh. The visual effects and the Hound/Mountain fight were the only highlights

2019-05-13 16:21:05 +0000 UTCExactly. The books will do it so much better. The way they did it now seems like a HUGE leap. Nothing that happened to her or how she was acting warrants her doing this right now. Nothing

2019-05-13 16:20:42 +0000 UTCI thought the episode itself was amazing. Everything about was great. I can't really point to one area or scene where they could have done better except for Daenerys plot. I understand the logic of she becoming the mad queen but it happened way too fast imo and it seems forced. Up until the moment she goes crazy she had not done anything to suggest she would burn thousands of people. The worst thing she had done was kill Varys and the Tarlys but you can still understand and defend what she did and I'm sure most other people/Kings would have done the same thing as it can be seen as betrayal. But from there to burn thousands of innocent people including children? That bit of the plot just seems like it was rushed.

2019-05-13 16:17:38 +0000 UTCExactly. Honestly since the first season I've liked her character but when there were ladies who were screaming for her to be on the throne rather than Jon, I'm like are you fucking serious? She's been threatening to burn people and cities for 7 seasons now. She's a great conqueror, probably the best ever, but not a ruler.
DSP
2019-05-13 16:14:51 +0000 UTCA lot of people say that the “mad queen” has been hinted at through the entire series, which I can KINDA SEE, BUT dany has never been the type to hurt innocent people who have never wronged her, she has always has cruel punishments, BUT ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE WRONGED HER OR DID SOMETHING TERRIBLE, nothing about this character development makes sense, which I blame on the lazy writing and lack of episodes. What’s did she hope to gain by destroying the city? The people she came to help free from Cersei are just burnt to a crisp now, so I don’t understand this writing... they completely ruined Daenerys character, by giving her unrealistic actions, because she lost some of her closest allies. I could see her realistically destroying the red keep(mostly aiming for Cersei), but that’s about it. And don’t get me started on that lackluster death of Cersei and Jaime, I despise Cersei but she was an amazing well writing character who deserved a better death than rocks. The Jaime and Euron fight was pointless and uninteresting, the scorpions were a threat for literally one episode and the next they are destroyed like nothing. The writing is inconsistent and does not live up to what the final season should have been. They should have made this a normal length season instead of this rushed product. CleganeBowl was cool and so was the directing, but there weren’t too many positives this episode

2019-05-13 16:14:42 +0000 UTCI think the writing has been on the wall forever though. To me this snap dany had was bound to happen. This entire show she has been threatening to burn citys to the ground if they dont give her what she wanted, and some she did exactly that. She is a targaryen and had she not had the help of wonderful counselors like jorah, mesandei, and ser bariston, she would have snapped long ago in my opinion. Just think how kany times in meereen did she say she was just gonna go light shit on fire but her council talked her down? It happened quite alot. Now, since ariving in westeros she has had completely conflicting council. At every step tyrion has told her not to fuck up kings landing and to go an alternate route. Every. single. time. That failed. Then on the other hand you have people like ollena telling her to be a dragon. She never actually tried that and she has wanted to do that since ariving in westeros. And now she has lost 2 dragons, jorah, her advisors are betraying her, missandei is dead, jon is turning her down, no one is rsllying behind her, sansas a cunt to her, and her armies are depleted. She is literally at her worst right now and has no one to, as tyrion claims to be doing, "check her worst impulses". On top of that, the last person left that she truly trusted, missandei, her dying words were "dracarys". That was the last peice of advice from a loyal advisor. I dont agree with it, but dany is just an emotional wreck and is not thinking clearly enough to controll what she has been fighting this whole show. She has never been fighting to do the right thing. She has been fighting herself to keep from doing the wrong thing and she finally just lost it. It is litteraly in her blood to do crazy things and she's been fighting those impulses, she lost everything and now she lost that battle to control her impulses. Right now she feels betrayed, hurt, alone, and what did measter Aemon say "a targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing". She dropped the mercy act because it never worked, even in mereen she showed mercy and there were still uprisings. The only way she knew to fix it was violence. The only person who ever cared about the realm and the common people ws varys, dany just used the freedom of slaves thing to gain power and varys saw through it in the end and he knew she was not the one. Killing civilians in the name of power has been i thing in this world for a while. People dont like it because its not been portrayed in the show much. The rains of castamere song? Its about tywin killing an entire house. Innocent men women and children drown in the mines. Yet tywin is considered the grestest player of the game. Yall even said in your full reaction that tywin killed innocent people while sacking KL. It happens. People go mad with power for their own selfish desires. Even in S1 khal Drogo screamed about pillaging westeros, taking their wemen and children, raping them, stealing their gold and homes, and dany had the look of fire and blood in her eyes during that scene. To me it's quite good and i look forward to seeing what she says once she comes off her power trip. Will she realise she made the wrong move?

2019-05-13 16:12:52 +0000 UTCIt was amazing! The productors are really proving themselves as really smart and brave. They chose to go with the dumbest and worst ending so they didn't spoiled the books. Really good stuff.

2019-05-13 16:10:48 +0000 UTCOnly like Varys death (cause let's face it he's fake af) and he was clearly trying to poison her. 2019-05-13 16:09:45 +0000 UTCThought it was good, not great. Loved the fact that in season 2, we thought it was a destroyed Kings Landing with winter there and snowflakes falling. Instead it was a destroyed Kings Landing with ashes falling. Was Hodor all over again and I really enjoyed that. Ignoring Arya dying because we needed to care about a character going through that experience, sure. Jamie just happening to meet Euron, the only survivor of the quick destruction of his fleet... eh. Drogon dominating everyone an episode after seeming inept... eh.

2019-05-13 16:08:00 +0000 UTCSee I wouldnt mind the mad queen bit had the writers not rushed it and wrote it badly. Their reasons for how and why she was mad made no sense to given what others had done in similar form didnt make them mad but Dany supposedly watching her abuser who literally just threaten her unborn child minutes before wasnt much phased by his death while forgetting in the pilot we watch all the stark boys calmly watching ned behead a deserter and even force Bran to watch.

2019-05-13 15:59:38 +0000 UTCif they had given more time to flesh out the storylines it would’ve been better, maybe even entire seasons to flesh them out. Like an entire season to defeat the knight king, an entire season for Danny to go Mad, etc. it feels like a lot happening VERY VERY fast, and I’m left saying “so ... that was it?” Don’t get me wrong the acting and cinematography and score is great the storylines are personally iffy for me though.

2019-05-13 15:53:43 +0000 UTCThe writing was still crap but the direction they went in made total sense to me. People can't face the truth of how Dany has always been. Unfortunately, it's not believable enough to most people because there were just too few episodes to get to this point without it feeling clunky.
