I don't think the laws surrounding how quirks are used is really that bs tbh. You have to think of it this way, lets say quirks are like guns. Should it be appropriate for anyone to carry and use a gun by law? Or is it more appropriate to have laws that only let those who are qualified carry and use guns? The police chief isn't saying that they shouldn't be allowed to use their powers; he is saying that there are laws and that heroes aren't above those laws. You need a license in order to use your quirks to harm another person. This law is completely reasonable. They can not argue self defense on this either. The only person the hero killer attacked was Native. Deku, Todoroki, and Tenya sought out and attacked the hero killer themselves. If anything Stain was protecting himself from those three; though his crimes absolves that so it doesn't matter.

Quirks in the universe of My Hero Academia are in three categories. (Emitter, Transformation, and Mutant) The police chief guys quirk made look like a dog. If you look around in the background of some shots a lot of people have animal quirks that make them look like dogs and cats. Nezu is the only animal in the show that has a quirk. So don't go thinking that every animal looking person is really animal cause their not. Nezu's quirk is High Specs it makes him super intelligent for an animal. But he is the only animal we know of with a quirk.

I would suggest to not watch the movie until after season 3. While the movie take place between the season 2 and 3 there is a bit of a spoiler in the movie about season 3.

There was no self defence hero killer wasn’t attack Tenya until he attack first deku punched hero killer first and Shouto attack hero killer first you have to remember a hero is a job like any other job you need a license cooking, driving, etc... a hero is not a title it’s a career

Wondering if The Normies will watch the Movie; (Two Heroes), before they see Season 3 ? Since it fits (story-wise) between those season 2 and season 3 it would be better for the continuity.

Everyone starts trying to save others, and all of a sudden you have conflicting opinions, use of quirks for personal reasons and soon enough chaos.

I honestly think this is a totally reasonable episode, legally. If you suddenly start letting people, especially young hero trainees, start using their powers, there would be havoc. Sure it seems dumb with our main protagonists who seem honorable and hero like. But think about your average hero trainee, who honestly might not be in it for super honorable reasons. That sort of power would go straight to people's heads. Not to mention they may not have full control of their quirk. It's like putting a partially trained cop in the force and telling him that it's okay to go shooting somebody if he needs to. He's liable to make mistakes and could harm other people as well. The problem is that they aren't just civilians. It is that they are in training, meaning the one's who are responsible are their teachers. You can't let kids start assuming that they are heroes, before they are. If they do and, like he said, something goes wrong, all of a sudden others are liable.

I mean if a hero-based society didn't have laws like that you'd have tons of vigilantes running around, people like Tenya going off and getting themselves killed because they think they can do whatever they want.

Idk if anyone posted this yet, but here's an excerpt about Bakugos name mentioned at the beginning: " the piece explains, the student really named himself Bakusatsuo in Japanese. Not only does that alias sound like a riff off Bakugo, but it is also a pun. “[It] is a pun based around the word ‘explosion’ (bakuhatsu), replacing the second half of ‘explosion’ with ‘kill’ (satsu) and then tacking on the last bit of his real name —ou which sounds like the suffix that means ‘king’,” the post writes. “So ‘King Explosion Murder’ is almost literally what he wants his hero name to be, but it’s actually a fairly awesome pun instead of just absolutely ludicrous like it comes off in English.”

It's not that you can't just go be a vigilante that doesn't make sense. It's that once you're in a dangerous situation you can't use defense combat to save a life or your own life. I think that should be a loop hole. I assume they'll give us a good reason eventually or actually challenge it as flawed and change it eventually.

Granted this is crazy anime alternate Japan, but hunting down a criminal and beating him into submission is NOT self-defense. One critical requirement of self-defense is a "willingness to back down," which no one there showed. Rules exist for a reason, people!

I think the quirk usage issue highlights why 'The ends justify the means' doesn't work in civilized society. Imagine if they hadn't stopped Stain. Imagine if Stain had not only killed Native, but Iida, Deku and Todoroki. What would the ramifications had been? Who would be held accountable? The entire student system would have been called into question. Would Manual and Gran Torino and Endeavour be charged with negligence contributing to the deaths of 3 minors? There's a valid reason for standards and equal application of them under the law. It worked out this time, but if plot armor had been stripped, they also might not have worked out.

I've always thought this episode was the stupidest one. If they didn't use their quirks, Iida and Native would've died. Plus, they've used their quirks at other times. It's just a plot device to introduce the hero license arc.

People always gloss over the fact that iida's intention the entire arc was to kill stain. It wasn't self defense till Deku showed up.

Anyone else want them to skip the next episode because its filler? Or at least do double drop? Don't get me wrong its a good filler, something i would recommend watching, but not something i would care to see a reaction to. (And when you do watch ep20 don't forget the after credits scene!)

I mean, I can understand why they would have those limitations. Quirks have the potential to be even more dangerous than guns. What if someone has a radiation power or some kind of nerve gas power? It definitely is messed up that some people might have the potential to protect themselves in a dangerous situation but aren't allowed to, but most people aren't trained in the use of their powers in combat scenarios and could potentially end up doing a great amount of harm not just to the person assaulting them but also to people in the surrounding area. Imagine someone with a power like Todoroki is mugged. He could accidentally fire off that gigantic ice blast like he did against Sero in the Sports Festival and not only stop the mugger but also freeze like a block's worth of people alive.

It is totally true that the crew put themselves in that position. Ida had NO CLUE Native was in a bad position. That's the issue. Deku and Todoroki could've easily brought pros to aide them. But they ran off on their own. At the same time... it is kinda messed up that people aren't allowed to use their natural born gifts as they wish.

I wouldn't call stain's worldview "propaganda" it's becomes more of an ideological movement. In a sense he is right about the majority of Heroes being only in it for the fame or money, I mean just look at Endeavor. The only problem with stain, was the way he went about changing what he thought was bad. Instead of becoming a symbol like All Might in order to inspire those who were doing bad into changing their ways, he decided to kill them. All in all he was getting rid of greedy selfish heroes but he did it in the wrong way.

This is a good analogy. Yeah the rules are unfair, but when you have a large population of people with quirks in a superhero society there needs to be laws to regulate it.

I’m glad Chris discussed the No using quirks to harm people law. It really makes sense but every reactor I see is like “no f*ck the law, our main characters don’t have to abide by rules and logic”. If I j walked I wouldn’t want to be lit on fire by some kid that thinks he’s being a hero like all might.

I just love that things have consequences in that show...Idda have permanent injuries and it's gonna affect him on many way, Stain becomes a ideology for vilains to rally...man the last episodes of this season are just great too ! Can't wait for you to be there !!

I know everyone likes to throw shade on McGruff the Crime Dog from him not giving any recognition that Deku and friends deserved for taking out Stain due to technicalities of not having licenses. But keep in mind that A. Japan is NOTORIOUSLY strict when it comes to rules. B. It wasn't ACTUALLY done out of self-defense, as Iida originally went out looking for vengeance, and Deku and Todoroki were literally looking for trouble unsupervised. And C. In a world where more than 80% of the population has superpowers, it would make sense to have these rules just to ensure that things don't fall into superpowered anarchy. They're unfair, yes. But you do understand where the logic behind it all is.

This is the moment I realized how smart this show/manga really is. i love how after every major event, they take the time to go in depth with how society is affected before moving along. The explanation of Stain's influence is so great. (Edit) I get what Chris is saying. Iida ran off deliberately to fight stain without telling pro heroes because he wanted to defeat Stain himself. Midoriya and Todoroki both ran off from their teachers without telling anyone, and worse case scenario a few children woulda died in an alley fighting an extremely dangerous villain and no one would even know until they found bodies. Thus the backlash on the teachers.

If they "found" Stain by chance, they should have alerted a pro or the police but it wasn't just that. Iida was specifically hunting down Stain, and by extension Midoriya and Todoroki who were following after him. If a kid without a drivers license drove a car into an armed shooter to save lives, he'd be commended as a hero yeah but he would still have to face the consequences for driving without a license, that's all the police chief was saying and why he swept it under the rug for them making the official statement "their dad was the one driving".

just imagine someone with a quirk like bakugo or todoroki and doesn't know how to use it properly, then he tries to help someone and lose control and kill or hurt bystanders that would be fucking stupid so yeah their laws may have flaws but it not stupid.
