i mean, you can't really get more real characters than breaking bad, regarding GoT, especially in the first 3 or 4 seasons, characters were real and they all died for their human mistakes, but i agree that the 100 does it well too.

Usually, movies and TV shows exist in this fantasy land where the good choices are easily distinguishable from the bad ones. The 100 is actually one of the few shows which doesn't do that. The Walking Dead tried, but it was never really a question whether Rick, Daryl and Glenn were good people. Like, of course they were. But in the 100 it gets tricky.

The thing I appreciate about this show is that all the characters make A LOT of mistakes. The thing that always bothers me about high-budget shows about badasses (GoT, Breaking Bad..) is that the characters always feel super-human. It's like every character is so solid and consistent that it stops feeling real. Real politics and warfare is complete chaos. In the real world, heroic "badasses" don't really exist, and if a "right choice" does exist, nobody consistently takes it.

In regards to the Mace situation (No idea about the 100 discussion since I don't watch it) Mace sent Jemma in without any tracker/backup/any kind of sense where she would end up. Leadership wise that was a very foolish move and Fitz had every right to question it.

So the decision for Clarke and Lexa to leave is inspired by a very real situation in actual warfare, one where you have intel about what the enemy is going to do but by responding to said intel you risk them finding out that you have their encryption. One of the most prominent examples of this in real life was WWII. The Nazis had an unbreakable code machine codenamed Enigma, it was essentially rudimentary machine learning AI, and it took one of the most brilliant human beings to ever live (Alan Turing the father of artificial intelligence) years to finally build a machine that could decode the Enigma. The Allied Powers were then able to intercept and decode all Axis communications, and this led to several attacks being allowed to happen because stopping was not worth the risk of the Axis Powers changing their code after they realized it was compromised. This is the same situation. They have intel they should not have, and by reacting to an attack that they shouldn't know is coming they would have tipped their hand and ultimately lost because the acid fog was still up. In this situation, Lexa is 100% correct. Sometimes you have to lose the battle to win the war, and by keeping quiet about it, you can control the outcome of the attack. If they had started a fire or come with a reason to evacuate, then the scout likely would have ordered the missile fire immediately which has completely unforeseen consequences for the Grounder Alliance. As cold as that decision was, and as morally icky as well, it was absolutely the correct decision in this circumstance. War is not pretty, and awful decisions are faced every day by leaders in a warzone. That last paragraph is what I love about this show, it forces discussion into what you would do. Those are the best kinds of shows, the ones that encourage audience engagement outside of the confines of the normal runtime of a television or movie. It makes you think and informs your life from that moment forward.

Ok so, Chris, I get what you're saying about Finn killing that Grounder in the Hatch (drink!) and Jasper killing that Mountain Man as being different situations. I mostly agree with you, but to play devil's advocate, I think one of the main reasons we both may feel that way is because we both know that Finn is 100% wrong and the Grounder didn't do anything, whereas the Mountain Man is total a piece of shit so we feel like his death is more deserved. In Finn's mind, the Grounder he kills has admitted to being somehow involved/aware about taking Clarke and he is worried for Clarke (probably more worried than Jasper is about that girl Fox? who was taken). This is similar to how (AGENTS OF SHIELD SPOILER AHEAD) you guys were getting annoyed at Shield and Fitz for berating and questioning Mace. Right now, the audience (except Nahid) has a certain level of trust for Mace and he is written to be generally likeable, albeit mysterious, and we know that he only sent Simmons to Nadeer to protect Daisy and Shield. However, no one else on the team knows that- all they know is that Mace sent someone they care about to their adversary (at this point they don't even realize how bad she truly is- as far as working with Watchdogs is concerned.) So I find that Fitz's outburst towards Mace was justified (also remember guys, he JUST got back from an alternate reality so he's not exactly being 100% rational at the moment) I totally get being annoyed with characters when they make decisions when they have wrong information, though, its super frustrating, but its also 100% human (hello look at today's society). So I try not to let it bother me too much. And personally, I always try to find sense and a justification for people's actions (probably all the theater/acting training).

What you guys have to understand with this show is that it’s pointless to discuss if the decisions that they make are “morally” correct. There are NO morally correct choices, someone ALWYAS seems to die as a result of the decisions that they make. So what they do is they try to pick the less terrible option. Also guys, the show is literally about survival. When all you’re thinking about is to save your ass, you do not make moral choices. Thus, everyone looks disposable as long as you get to live. People die so other people can live. THAT is the reality of their world. Everyone here is cruel and selfish at the end of the day, as the human race has always been, because they WILL put what they care about above everything else. But I’m glad you’re enjoying it, looking forward to the finale 🤩
