Fyi without spoiling anything no hokage can run the village at the same time whenever a hokage stands down due to whatever circumstance they will select a new one or if he/she dies the village elders will chose one they think is best to protect the village. So Sarutobi stepped down and had appointed a new hokage to run the village in his place , and when the fourth died during the nine tails attack the third felt he should once again take up the mantle of hokage to honour the memory of the fourth hokage and his sacrifice he made to save the leaf.

Hehehe I love how Shikamaru specifically wants everything in his life to be average. It’s not that he’ll just go with the flow, he specifically wants an average looking wife, an average split gender two kids, an average retirement and an average lifespan for a man, nothing that would remotely agitate the norm or invite undue effort or attention. Mediocrity needs to be celebrated. But I love how despite this MO, he’s super clutch and steps up when needed, remaining analytical all the way - it makes him that much cooler. Honestly you’re all very intelligent and observant too, A+ students or Indian doctors or no! Academic achievement is overrated. I love your knowledge about history, warfare, weaponry and strategies. You understand the mechanics of an ambush and appreciated Asuma’s badass/sadistic brass knuckles. And you always point out things or make connections to other pop culture I never noticed the first time, opening up new dimensions of the show for me. I can’t wait for next week’s double poop! Flying Pakkun will lead the way :D
