Flash back scene of Inari's father getting hung up on a cross and getting gutted like a pig in front of inari and the entire town. 2.Kakashi putting a whole in hakus chest with lightning blade. 3.zabuza getting stabbed in the back with spears as he goes on a rampage. 4.the whole forest of death arc, where the forest was filled with death and violent screams. 5.orochimaru being a creepy fuck swollowing scrolls and shit. 6.Nejis dad giving his life to protect his brother and family. 7. All of gaaras murder scenes. 8.yashamaru suicide bombing in front of gaara after telling gaara how much everyone hates him. 9.itachis masacar on the uchiha clan. 10. And all the off screen deaths, like hayate , and the kazekage. And im sure i missed a whole lot more, but you get my point this is not a kids show.

So when kakashi was saying that itachi was captain of the anbu squad at age 13 , the lavender color armour he was wearing was the anbu outfit in the flash back scene when he destroyed his clan. So thats the age he was when he murdered an entire clan as a kid pretty much.

There's no backstory fillers in Naruto. There is backstory filler in Shippuden that fleshes things out more. After this current arc, there's only a couple filler episodes. Episodes 97, 101 (Kakashi mask episode) and episodes 102-106 (filler arc) . Then it's the last canon arc of Part 1 Naruto starting at episode 107. Then a bunch of filler until the last episode of Naruto which is canon. Episode 220. You have to watch the last episode of Part 1 Naruto and since the first half of episode 220 is part of an arc and decent development for some characters, I'd say it's a good idea to watch that last arc too. It goes from episodes 216-220. But your choice.

Just finished this weeks reactions and all I gotta say is I sincerely hope you Normies will watch the follow up series. The emotions, atmosphere and morals is all kicked up a notch in shippuden now I don’t want to be one of those people to hype something up. But honestly words can’t do shippuden justice. Yes a large portion is filler hell but in my opinion there are few but absolutely amazing anime that can really get you Immersed in the world. Seeing itachi in this reaction just brings so many nostalgic feelings. And he holds one of the most intense and terrifying presence in anime history. Love your reactions guys!! Eps 102-106 is a filler arc also worth watching on your own time where Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura go on an escort mission in another land on their own without Kakashi. I skipped this arc the first time I watched Naruto, but going back to watch it after I truly appreciated the team bonding and relationship development it (and fillers in general) provide. If you think about it, at this point, we’ve only seen Team 7 on one mission together (the Land of Waves) even though it’s implied they’ve been on many between that, the Chuunin exams, and the Konoha invasion. Because of the increasingly broadening scope, you won’t be seeing them all together on a mission again for the rest of the series. So if Team 7 interaction is something you enjoy, I’d really recommend watching it! It will add to your knowledge of the characters. There’s a brief flashback in ep 107 that pulls from this arc too.

There are definitely fillers that are stellar and full of backstory, character development, and original plot that should be watched, especially in Shippuden. The one you mentioned where Team 7 tries to take off Kakashi’s mask, ep 101, is a classic from part one of Naruto and if time allows I’d love to see you react to it (maybe while you all eat some ramen too)!! Ep 97 is a more purely silly filler that can be skipped and actually in my opinion disrupts the tension of the story.

It's pretty short but I like seeing young orochimaru in 83 in jiraiyas flashback of the bell training. It's cool seeing a more innocent version of him, but it does give him some development. I like jiraiya saying to the 3rd hokage "it's always orochimaru this, orochimaru that", because it shows how much of a liking sarutobi had for orochimaru, and orochimaru returned this admiration by seeking strength the same way his sensei did, by learning the largest variety of ninjutsu possible. The 3rd was known as the most powerful shinobi because he was "the professor", I assume being around this influenced orochimaru and kickstarted his thirst to learn all jutsu, which unfortunately also gave him his desire for eternal youth that he took too far which drove him a tad insane. I bet it always felt good to receive praise from his sensei though, he admired him a lot I believe
