Rings of Power - Announcement

Hello friends!

I wanted to share an unfortunate news. Our video footage from this morning got corrupted, which we did not know until our editor downloaded it and tried to work with it. She was able to recover about 30 minutes of this reaction, and the entire audio file.

We've decided that the best way to mitigate this and make sure you guys receive the reaction in it's entirety and best moments, we will re-watch the episode again on Monday. The reaction will be a combination of the corrupted file part we were able to recover, and the second viewing. We will keep the audio of our original discussion and first thoughts in the end.

We apologize for this unfortunate situation. I will keep you updated on when we will be ready to publish the reaction next week.

Grade A BS is how I define your response. I understand completely how PJ went about writing LOTR and believe it or not, I am a huge fan of his trilogy. But let's break down the over-reaction from "Tolkien's self-appointed gatekeepers" shall we... First, let's not sugar-coat the incel-fueled hate campaign leveled at the show before it even came out. That created room for more "objective" haters of the show to suddenly become Tolkien scholars when even real Tolkien scholars supported the show. That the show breaks the lore is kind of a given and Amazon even says as much, since the Tolkien Estate doesn't allow access to the Silmarillion. So you are basically complaining about something that if you did an even rudimentary bit of research, you realize that the Silmarillion was never on the table. Second, let's talk about the fan-base, the toxic, racist fanbase that apparently includes you if I'm reading your last sentence in the first paragraph correctly. When I realized that a significant portion of the fanbase ascribe to the "Tolkien wanted everyone to be white, Vikings-rule" ethos, I almost decided to let LOTR go. The greatest movie trilogy of all time and I was ready to kick it to the curb because a significant portion of Tolkien's fans seem to be bigoted. Would ROP get this much hate if it wasn't for the diverse casting? Probably not. There are fair criticisms, but a LOT of people seem to enjoy the show for what it is. You don't like it? Fine. But don't get me your bullshit about how the show is terrible because it dares to be "woke". And stop fucking wasting my time.

If you have even the faintest idea of how much effort PJ put into making tLotR trilogy faithful to the books, you wouldn't take anything the "Tolkien Estate" says seriously. This show literally breaks the lore and explicitly does things that Tolkien wrote contrary to. They even twisted the timeline. Actions which they BRAGGED about doing for the sake of "diversity" (which translates to "money" in corporate speak). The fans are more respectful of Tolkien's legacy than the so-called "Tolkien Estate". I had no dog in this race. If someone enjoys something fictional, then I don't think people should try to ruin that. But I'm not gonna read some nonsense about RoP being more respectful to Tolkien than the Peter Jackson trilogy. That's some Grade A BS.

GoldArthur

Yes I'm suscribed to this patreon because I hate black people. You got me

Hængeklumpen

This series is basically "Dune" 1984; questionable adaptation but still entertaining none the less.

Chaos T

Exactly this. Many people like the show. Others don't, so they just don't watch it. The people who actively hate on it are people who dislike it either for ideological reasons (but use the "respect the lore" disguise to save face) or because their opinons are influenced by alt-right rage-bait youtubers who make money out of fabricating rage and drama

untzillatx

or you could just stop watching

untzillatx

The PJ trilogy is just as much fan fiction as RoP. especially if the metric is the comparison to the book themselves.

untzillatx

I loved Peter Jackson changes. Absolutely hate Rings of Power. I tried for many episodes. Characters are very unlikable it seems like very expensive and bad fan fiction. sorry but not sorry lol

Gwenhwyfar Aine

I find it hilarious that the gatekeepers are complaining about how ROP disrespects the lore even though the Tolkien Estate are actively consulting on the show. The same Tolkien Estate which btw, hated the Peter Jackson movies for all of the changes Peter Jackson made to the lore. TBF, the show has some flaws (none of which rise to dealbreakers for me), but given the legal constraints Amazon is under, they managed to make something that the Estate finds acceptable lore-wise.

Robert Bonfante

You may not be miserable, but your opinion was.

Robert Bonfante

People still use the word triggered to deflect it seems. Someone disagreed with me. They must be triggered. I can't engage with people in a mature manner. They must be triggered.

Shawn Brink

I've heard pretty good things from most people - the only people I've seen saying bad things about the show are 99% from people that wrote the show off before ever watching it because of their own political reasons. Or from people that hate watched the first episode just to say that they watched it and still just hate it for their own political reasons. I don't even watch the show myself, because I don't really care about it, but the people that complain over the most minor things without giving it a chance seem the most cringey and whiney to me tbh

Tmatts

There are a lot of cringe people that post on these patreon threads but you are definitely in the top 3. Not surprised at your nickname either.

Brakthir

PERIODT

Brandon Jensen - May the force be with you

No?

Hængeklumpen

yet your still watching.

SnorlaX

@Sean Swisher yes i do, and i'm tired of pretending that's bad

Hængeklumpen

The fact that you take the time just to make it to this comment section and "state your thoughts" on something you don't even want to watch shows some passion at least. And the fact that you deny emotionally bothered by it "at al"l is a clear indicator that you're highly emotional. Please get help.

BetheSOUL

Proclaiming you hope this show gets canceled is pretty emotional.

Chaos T

Meanwhile "The Rings of Power" has been seen by almost 100 million people making it one of the more successful streaming things of 2022 despite the review bombing from people who get their opinions from youtube grifters.

Chaos T

Lol not at all just stating my thoughts on the matter I'm not emotionally bothered by it at all

Kage Uzumaki

you seem actually triggered by people giving their opinion on your opinion.

Trey Milliner-Williams

I seem to have triggered some people

Kage Uzumaki

Saying that you hope the show is cancelled is just an asshole mentality. Like basically you hope everyone involved loses their job lol

Swish

The show is contractually obligated to five seasons and is overseen by the Tolkien estate. Each season is probably going to be one to two years apart. Feel good, it'll be cancelled after 8-10 years.

Jul_Belton

I didn't know I was miserable for stating my opinion

Kage Uzumaki

You sound miserable. There are tons of shows I don't like, and I simply do not watch them. I don't "hope they are cancelled"

BrothaReuben

You mean like every other show you watch?

BetheSOUL

This show is a money laundering scheme.

Ramiro Quijada

True this shows is terrible, hope this show is cancelled

Kage Uzumaki

FACTS

Brandon Jensen - May the force be with you

could just stop reacting to that mess of a show

Hængeklumpen

Super unlucky of all episodes... =(

Saifu

That's too bad. Not only the finale, but the best episode of the season by far :(

BrothaReuben

It happens. Thank you guys for caring!

RegTravels

Ooph. Thats rough that it happened on the finally. At least the audio is intact, it's a shame you don't know any animators working for cheap, they could've had lil chibi normies reacting/timed up with audio or whatever even crudely animated like real old South Park eps 😂
