Podcast Questions!

Wanted to create a new post for podcast questions for next week (11/22/2017)! If you guys have anything you want us to discuss fire away!

When exploring a 2D world map, do you prefer to have random encounters like in the older Final Fantasy titles, or do you prefer not having any combat like in Chrono Trigger? Should the world map feel like a break from the story and just allow some exploration or should it feel like part of the adventure? PS: I love listening to your podcasts while I'm at work. Thanks for making work a little more fun!

What do you believe that WRPG's can learn from JRPG's and vice versa, what do you believe JRPG's can learn from WRPG's? Sometimes one side tries to use elements from another and at times falls flat on their face like some JRPG's attempting open world when I believe they do not have a strong understanding on how to make an open world work.

Are there any character archetypes or personality types you feel are underrepresented in jrpgs? If so, what are they? For example, do we need more tricksters/rascals? Mother figures? More Steiners or Vivis?

If you could make a TV Show or movie based on a game of your choosing, what game would it be and why? I have always loved the idea of a Metal Gear Solid show as I feel at least the earlier games could fit well into that form of media given how reliant they already are on cutscenes (I asked two questions so feel free to pick whichever you find best for discussion, I don't wanna be greedy and make someone else miss on a question haha)

Mod support has been a great aid to many games in helping not only fix elements of the game that were flawed or downright broken, but also in expanding and providing new engaging options for players. What are some mods you would like to see in the upcoming FFXV PC release? I personally would love to see a complete overhaul to the combat & magic system to provide more challenge and skill based gameplay, if that is at all possible

This is totally random but I kind of want to hear you guys banter on it. Sorry it's so long. It's been mentioned on this channel a fair amount how narratival meaning and connection can vary greatly between cultures -- for instance, narratives based around collectivism connecting to eastern societies but falling flat in western ones. One thing that interests me is the sheer lack of the Greek tragedy seeming to influence much of any aspect of modern media. Two things that come close, to me, might be Death Note and Breaking Bad. But both of those still had some sense of resolution and "good feeling" at the ending whereas many true tragedies ended abruptly and incredibly sadly, leaving you feeling nothing but pain towards the main characters. These days, everything needs to have some semblance of comedy, or people feel cheated. I've heard one person say something like, "I get enough sad news every day as it is -- I don't need to hear another sob story." I could say the same about fear -- "I have enough to fear and be anxious about in my own life" -- yet people love to see horror movies. So, my question is, could some form of the Greek tragedy still be relevant in modern media? Will it maybe catch on again at some point, or is it still relevant elsewhere in the world?

I haven't kept up to date with recent podcasts and don't know if this topic has been covered, but: What are your guys thoughts of games as a service (thinking of FFXV and the new multiplayer expansion)? Do you feel this strategy is beneficial in the long run, does it make you feel the product is incomplete and want to wait things out, or can you imagine a case where this strategy could be really blossom? MMOs have this concept, but people have to pay monthly subscriptions where as FFXV doesn't have model, so does it make business sense to do this?
