So...this is such a niche crossover it’s going to take a moment to explain.

In the 90’s, Takashi Nakamura directed a very bizarre children’s anime film known as Catnapped: The Movie, about a pair of kids who have to rescue their dog from Banipal Witt, a land populated by cat people. Any outsider who enters Banipal Witt becomes a cat person much like its citizens. The film’s villain is a mean cat queen named Buburina, who’s been cursed to turn anyone she touches into living balloons.

Years later, Nakamura wrote and directed a short for the Japan Animator Expo titled Bubu & Bubulina, starring a pair of sisters. Bubulina’s personality (and name) is similar to Buburina's from Catnapped; bossy and selfish. Meanwhile, her little sister Bubu has a vacuum-like device that can generate infinite balloons.

With too many parallels for this to be a coincidence, I was inspired to draw this incredibly messy and disorganized comic about Bubu and Bubulina somehow winding up in Banipal Witt and falling victim to the effects of its atmosphere. One of them takes it better than the other.
