Hey guys,
Portraits are finally done!
When I look for inspiration I like to check my Twitter likes, my saves in Instagram, Artstation or any platform were the artists I like post their work. Why in social media first? Because I want to see how people reacted to the things that I like. If I like two portraits of one specific artist I’ll choose the one who have more engagement with their audience so I reduce the risk of not doing something trending (this is for marketing purposes). I need to understand that my audience it's probably different to the audience of those artists and therefore I’m not going to achieve the same reaction, but picking the more popular it helps me to analyze what is that “thing” that make special that piece of art.
With that being said, I want to share with you some artists that I used as an inspiration in terms of aesthetics and engagement:
The first one is @HORIKWAWATARU on Twitter, he is really good with moody sketches, not just with final detailed artworks but also looseness between strokes, I like how he plays with values, colors and shapes. Makes me feels like he don't cares about perfection so I don't feel the pressure of making something full of details using his work as a reference, Don’t get confuse, it might looks rough but It is very difficult to make something look beautiful and at the same time sketchy.
The second one it's @Kuvshinov_Ilya, of course if I'm going to do portraits I need to take a look into the most popular portrait artist that I know/like. The style of Ilya it's way more clean and soft than mine, but it still really simple and well done, very inspiring to me because he manage to share art everyday of his life since long time ago, that is admirable. Another good reference for my portrait this time.
The third is @samuelyounart on Instagram, what I like about Samuel's art it's the way he defines shapes, looks absolutely beautiful and clean, it's kind of funny that my illustrations always looks like sketches rough and with many lose lines (not clean) but deep inside of me that's what I admire from other artists. Samuel as a style that I tried long time ago and I like to do it from time to time, with strong strokes for the shadows and hard corners in the shapes, geometric and precise.
Last but not least I checked some references to reinforce the mood in Lola, looking for something dangerous/punk and I used the texture of the lady's scarf to make Juan's cap.
This is what i have been working on these days, like I said before I used to spend more time in the pre-production than in the actual production (illustration). Wait for a new Procreate study and some tips in a next few days!
Anyways guys, if you feel that I'm missing something please ask me in the comments or via dms, thank you for your support.
Have a nice weekend!
