Hey everyone!
How are we doing this? Let's start by defining what style is not. It's not about me telling you what to do, finding your style is a personal journey, only you know yourself, only you can be you. Style is a step-by-step process where you mix what you love with what your skills allow you to create. Here, I'll be sharing my tools, so you can craft what you want in the most efficient way possible. I'm not gonna lie, it might be a frustrating process, but you'll also find yourself enjoying the simplest parts of the journey, and hopefully, without even noticing, you'll discover your style.
As I mentioned yesterday, this year I'll be creating character cards and in-game assets for my collectible card game, Afterorder. So how will my work help you? I'll not only be sharing the process behind each piece of artwork, but I'll also choose a simple subject, like a fruit, and apply all my techniques to develop something interesting. At the beginning of every week, I'll share this simple subject, and you're welcome to join and share your art in our Discord group or on your socials using the #findyourstyle hashtag. That way, I can check your progress and share my favorites. If you decide to join our community on Discord, you might find valuable insights from others, and this sense of solidarity among artists with a similar artistic style is a great way to stay motivated in case you feel lonely during this challenging journey of finding your style.
Today, I'm sharing the first character based on a Strawberry. I'm currently applying the concept of Chaos and Order from my game, and this character belongs to the chaos faction. Her name is Nassa, she is a bio engineer obsessed with creating the world's most beautiful strawberry garden, but every time she plants a strawberry, it grows into a wildly different fruit.
I spent almost 6h creating this piece, I'll share the full lenght video process and PSD in a few hours!.
My advice is to go beyond my Strawberry version and be yourself. If it's a concept, add some extra ideas to your iteration and let your imagination soar. There's no need for it to be a character if you don't feel like it this week; it could be a vending machine, for all I care. You can try my brushes and make a still-life painting with a bunch of strawberries just to experiment with textures. Please feel free to explore the Strawberry theme in any way you feel comfortable and share it if you want. I know we can be a bit introverted sometimes, but if you want me to take a look, you can share it here, in our Discord (recommended), or on your socials. I'm not here to judge you; every artist is unique, and I want you to be you—not "perfect" you, just you.
I can't wait to see your explorations; this is exciting!
