Unlocking Creativity: Embracing the Unexpected

Hello everyone!

Week two of finding your style. Tired of creative block? Struggling to come up with ideas while staring at your laptop, PC, or iPad? Let's tackle this problem!

First, let's understand what the creative process is: It's a series of stages for generating novel ideas or products, typically involving inspiration, incubation, illumination, evaluation, and implementation. Creative block arises when we struggle with some of these steps. Here are five tips to address common issues in each stage. but Before jumping into "inspiration" here is an unconventional approach to overcoming creative block that might surprise you.

1. Embrace randomness and constraints. Creativity often flourishes under limitations. Set unusual constraints for your project, such as using a specific color palette, incorporating an odd element, or limiting yourself to a certain number of shapes. Alternatively, use a random word generator or pick words from a book, and challenge yourself to create something based on those words. This method forces you to think differently and can lead to unique, innovative ideas. Remember, creativity is often born from embracing the unexpected and pushing boundaries. Our weekly specific topics, like "fruits," are examples of constraints that can boost your imagination.

2. Don't be inspired; be prepared. Sometimes, we're not passionate about our work, but we still need to complete tasks to pay the bills and deal with our not-so-fun boss or clients. While you can't control when inspiration strikes, you can prepare for times when it doesn't. Create a collection of reference images, even if unrelated to your job. You might find inspiration in unexpected places, and your brain never stops problem-solving, even subconsciously. Changing your state of mind to a calmer one can help you find inspiration. I've mentioned this topic several times here on Patreon and that's why I share my personal references, and all thought I'm constantly sharing new pictures, these are what inspire me, among those, you must find the ones that trigger something on you.

3. Spot/Stop Obsession. Overthinking and aiming for perfection can obstruct the incubation and illumination phases. When ideas don't flow naturally, check your notes for simple ideas. If nothing works, take a break and engage in other activities. This allows your brain to rest, and you might stumble upon unconventional ideas. The key is to engage in casual activities that take your mind off the question, "What should I draw?". I often sit in front of the sun for a few min without doing anything or just look at the bunny pet "coquito" I have and get distracted by him. Casual things.

4. Be useful, not perfect (evaluation). Identify essential requirements for your creative task. For instance, if you're designing a character, consider their "name" and "motivation." Build upon these foundations and explore different iterations. Determine what's crucial for your current challenge and keep it simple, avoiding obstacles in your creative process.

5. Know when to stop. Technical challenges during implementation, such as mastering fundamentals (shape, values, colors, composition, perspective), are normal. However, performance matters more than skills.

This is probably the number one reason I don't always perform at my best. I tend to push myself to the limit, which works well for a few hours each day, but after a certain point, my brain and body don't function as efficiently. I usually tackle the most challenging tasks in the morning and leave repetitive tasks for later. If I try to solve difficult problems or think too hard after 5pm, I'm more likely to experience frustration and decreased efficiency, simply because I'm tired. Of course, this is just my experience, and everyone is different. We all have a certain amount of energy per day that we replenish through various activities.

It's essential to be mindful of the best times in your day to tackle the most challenging tasks, such as creating, brainstorming ideas, or sketching. This might sound obvious, but the truth is, we get caught up in so many responsibilities that we often forget to take care of our energy levels. Overworking is not commendable; it only shows poor time management, and as a result, our performance declines, both mentally and physically.

Remember, each person's creative process is unique. By considering these tips, you can overcome creative block and find success in your work.

That's it for today! This week's challenge is all about Dragon Fruit. Feel free to explore and share your creations on our Discord server! Remember, it doesn't have to be limited to characters; anything related to Dragon Fruit is welcome.

Have a great week everyone, thanks for your support!.
