The Magic of Casual - Jellyfish Illustration PSD + Process Video (11h)

What's up? Just letting you know that the PSD file and the 11 hour process video for the Emy (Jellyfish) illustration are up (the HD version will be ready soon).
In this process and PSD, you'll see me wrestling with Emy's face I was aiming for cute and pretty, but I ended up with a bland expression. After drawing for hours, I took a short break, followed by a 10 minute meditation. This usually sparks great ideas; I visualize the most epic scene I can something challenging to draw, but I know it'll bring life to the art. So, I decided to have this serious policewoman help kids cross the street. At first, I wanted to include three children, but after six hours of working on it, I was exhausted and chose to move on to colors and values.
Balancing drawing time and other activities is still a struggle for me, so spending so much time on a single piece can be a bit stressful. Emy's character development was unique compared to my other works. I started with a simple motivation her job as a police officer and then incorporated the "jellyfish" aspect as a secondary narrative element. I considered a ballet dancer for the jellyfish vibe, but I couldn't find enough visual inspiration for the character design. Plus, I prefer characters in casual work settings.
As for the raincoat texture, I went for a glossy look, which is both eye-catching and easy to create. You'll see the layer distribution with the values in the PSD it's all about simplification! I hope you find the process helpful, and feel free to hit me up with any questions.
