You're very close. He did hear mari and she IS technically talking to a kwami. It's just P1AGG instead of Plagg.

He found Mari on her bedroom kissing a magazine with Adrien's face on it or he heard her confessed something really weird while speaking with the Kwamis, along the lines of "ugh I just wanna web him with sugar and kiss him senseless"
