EARLY ACCESS Friends 5 x 3 & 4

ahhh !! this one got a bit emotional!! thoughts on the ross and emily situation?🤔🤔🤔

EARLY ACCESS Friends 5 x 3 & 4

Comments

i dont think so!! rachel never said marks name during sex/at a wedding ect so ross insecurity about him was unwarrented imo 😂 emily got humiliated in front of all her friends and family by her fiance saying his exs name at the alter thats like insane so her asking him that was fair lol 😭

IcedQuokka

I finally got around to watching this and realised my comment on Emily was actually for the next batch of episodes, i got my episodes confused. Still though FTB Is it not hypocritical to say that Ross should respect Emily's boundaries with avoiding Rachel because of Emily's insecurity but when Ross had a similar insecurity about Mark in season 3 and gave Rachel a boundary of not spending time with him you disagreed with Ross and called him a really insecure person for that? At least Ross is going ahead and agreeing with her boundary but Rachel wouldnt hear a word of it when Ross had set a boundary for her in season 3

Sean Carroll

So true lol 😭 that’s a like common thing with him I’ve noticed he never respects his partners boundaries ahahaha

IcedQuokka

Sooooooooo true 😭😭 like they just should have ended it then are there instead of trying to salvage it

IcedQuokka

Yeah I get you!! Like it’s closing that chapter of their lives and being proper friends type thing

IcedQuokka

I never liked how even when Ross agreed to Emily's condition, he's still hanging out with Rachel. It just shows how, a long with every other relationship of his, he never truly respects his significant others and their autonomy.

I think fandom wise most people aren't on either Ross or Emily's side they're more team "this is a complete mess end it now" Which is where I'm at. I have no real opinion on Emily's actions because like, realistically it should be over. This not seeing Rachel thing will never work. Like what's he gonna do, never see Monic again in case Rachel is in the house? They don't even live in the same country. The timeline is wild. Cause they were seeing each other every day for two weeks, then four weeks after that in a long distance relationship, so six weeks into the relationship they get engaged and tewn weeks into the relationship they're married. Two and a half months!? I feel they got completely swept away in the idea of it all, the "exoticness" of like finding a love in a foreign country. Then this attempt to continue it is like stubbornness of refusing to see what it really was, which was just like a loveswept fling. Neither of them don't wanna be seen as "failures" marriage wise. Which isn't a good way to start a marriage.

The way I interpret the Rachel telling Ross she loves him thing is that its a culmination of a lot of stuff concerning Ross and Rachel and essentially closing that book. The big thing its closing is of course Rachel trying to tell Ross she loves him which has happened since the season 4 finale but everyone told her it was a stupid idea and she was being selfish and it took her to actually do it to realize how bad of an idea it was, and thats why during the scene she bursts into laughter and calls herself an idiot. Because it becomes so obvious to her and her fantasy in her head of Ross' reaction just crumbles. I think she had this idea in her head that Ross would instantly drop Emily and choose Rachel, like he did with Julie and Bonnie, and the fact that he chooses Emily and says he's married shows that he genuinely is over Rachel, like he states in the middle of season 4. While before he always chose Rachel over another woman, this tme he chooses a disaster marriage over Rachel. And she realizes that, and realizes that Ross genuinely doesn't like her like that anymore, and so there's no point to it all because nothing will ever come of it. Then the other thing is closes is their season 4 relationship where they weren't even friends really, they just happened to be in the same friend group. Which lead to some great scenes in most of the season where they were super petty and throwing shade at each other and being all jealous. But eventually you gotta move on from that, and that conversation kinda signifies the end of Ross like Rachel but Rachel's with someone, but then Rachel likes Ross and Ross is with someone, then Ross leaves that someone for Rachel loop that we had for three seasons. Thats what I took from it IMO and why they act just fine afterwards. Its the signifier of they're back to being just friends like Season 1. Not "friends" like in Season 4.

Calum

Omg Congratulations!!🤍🤍🤍

IcedQuokka

Ooo maybe I interpreted the scene wrong then!! It was a really confusing scene for me tbh so I think I just didn’t dwell on it!

IcedQuokka

LOL JEEZ 😭😭

IcedQuokka

I agree she should have just said no at the alter and walked away 😭😭 she’s causing more pain for herself at this point I feel I’m hoping Rachel finds out first but knowing phoebes 6th sense I feel like it will be her discovering it first 😂😂 not too sure about the others tbh

IcedQuokka

NOOO I LOVE EMILY 😭😭

IcedQuokka

I think it’s more along the lines of “don’t hang out with her in general” type thing so she probably wouldn’t care about Ross seeing Monica at their apartment ect plus monica can go visit ross at his place anyways ahaha

IcedQuokka

The baby scene made me so emotional 😭😭 so unexpected as well, I love phoebe 😭 Yeah I think ross and Emily’s situation is sooooooo specific because realistically she would have broken up with him probably 😂 but since she’s staying it totally makes sense to ask rhat

IcedQuokka

Nooo I love glee!! I watched it on tv back in the day as it was coming out LOL who did he play in glee tho?? I haven’t watched it yearssss

IcedQuokka

Omg you’re so right!! He keeps saying he doesn’t want a divorce and not that he loves Emily so much ect 😭 that’s so saddd

IcedQuokka

Yeah it’s a bit wishy washy!! But I stand by my girl Emily with this 😂😂

IcedQuokka

So many shows that I’m sure we’re iconic at the time but I’ve honestly never heard of them 😅😅

IcedQuokka

Oh I completely forgot about Monica’s job 😭😭 they didn’t mention it for so long I think I got confused and thought she was still unemployed oops

IcedQuokka

Oh LMAO

IcedQuokka

17:25 To me if i start seeing someone until its not over i will always be exclusive to that person... I think for my area seeing multiple people at a time started to become a thing since last 5-6 years.. but still yto me it feels like cheating... so i always focus on one person at time... Though now it has nothing to do with me as i will be getting married in next february...

You might want to rewatch the scene where Rachel confesses to Ross because tonally it was meant to be about closure. She wasn’t saying it with any intention other than to get it off her chest, and she wasn’t trying to pursue him. It gave the show a chance to let some of the tension from the season 3 finale dissipate and allowed Ross and Rachel to laugh at how strange and messy their situation had been. I still think both of them, especially Rachel, have lingering romantic feelings, but this moment helped them cool off. Or at least it helped the writers bring down the drama and temperature of the situation...even with the whole Emily ultimatum plotline (which IMO is not entirely connected to Rachel’s feelings) If you want to be "realistic".. yea Rachel should've kept her mouth shut imo... But dramatically, you can't have such a high stakes dramatic plotline about Rachel running off to London, and then not include SOME kind of resolution scene b/t her and Ross...

I have kidney stones twice in my life and it is THE WORST pain that a man can go through. I would rather be kicked in the nuts with a steel toed boot than have Kidney stones.

Michael Grooms

Emily should have never said yes at the alter in the first place. She is justified yes but to cut Rachel off completely means also isolating him from Monica and his other friends and that’s wrong. Chandler and Monica are the best together, even if they have an argument they quickly resolve it and apologize to the other when they are wrong, they are so compatible and understand each other so well. Can’t really say the same about Ross and Rachel tbh they are opposite couples in many ways. Out of curiosity out of the friends what order do you think they will find out about Chandler and Monica?

Raquel

Kidney stone lives matter haha

Sean Carroll

Ietseatapples

Nah fuck Emily, I never liked her. Ross the GOAT

Sean Carroll

My uncle once told us that he wouldn’t wish kidney stones on his worst enemy and that it was the most excruciating pain he ever went through

Sean Carroll

I actually dont think Emily is being completely unreasonable asking Ross to stop seeing Rachel... IF Rachel wasn't living with his sister. At that point you're also asking him to never go visit his sister, and to stop hanging out with the rest of his friends since she lives with one. It is too much imo... at the 1st level its fine, but when you think about it its way more than that.

Bisibia

It's one of my favorite lines too! She knows him very well.

100th episode is here!! Phoebe talking to the babies is one of the moments from the show that always makes me emotional. I bet that scene hit harder to Lisa because she already had her son at this point. The way the birth scene cuts to Joey releasing the kidney stones is so funny, especially since people compare the pain from labor with it 😂 Chandler dictionary definition of goofing around is so cute, it's like Monica said, he's better with words than he think he is 🩷 Joey and Phoebe debate about the selfless good deed is so funny, since I've first watched it I can't think of something good I'd do without being happy about it... I guess Joey's right then 😅 Chandler being the best Monica's ever had makes sense since he received some tips from her before, when he was with Kathy (remember the "Seven!" scene?). I agree that they're very compatible. I could go on and on about it, but I'll save it for later. In a normal relationship, I don't think I would agree with what Emily is asking, but since their situation is very specific, I can't blame her for not wanting Rachel in their lives. She was humiliated in front of everyone and she saw them both at the airport together. Tbh, she shouldn't even be considering giving this marriage a try, but since she is, asking Ross to stay away from Rachel was pretty much expected.

liv

I like that Monica and Chandler are slowly figuring out what they are. It's a real big difference from Ross and Rachel who seemed to be a couple the second they got together. So I like the slower pace as they decide they are exclusive in these episodes. And I think they're trying to avoid all the R&R drama by not telling everyone yet. My favorite line is Monica telling Chandler "I think you're better than you think you are." What a thing to say to someone who has low self-esteem like him. There is a theory out there that Chandler is the best sex Monica ever had because of that sex lesson she gave him when he was dating Kathy.

Chris

Since you only recognised the kidney stone doctor from community and not from Glee I’m assuming you didn’t watch glee which means I have to throw it out there that I think it would make a great show to react to. So funny, so crazy. Also Emily is 100% justified in wanting Ross to cut contact with Rachel, the fact that he is hesitant is such a bad sign for his and Emily’s relationship imo, don’t listen to the Ross defenders

Mina Friberg

I still think it's too early to comment on Ross and Emily, as these first episodes are very relevant to contextualizing the direction of their story. But what's certainly striking in this situation is Ross's difficulty concentrating and reflecting on his own feelings. He constantly emphasizes how much he doesn't want a second divorce instead of focusing solely on his true feelings for Emily and their future. He also doesn't even consider questioning his feelings for Rachel after recent events. Regarding Rachel, I agree with the above comment: Rachel isn't over Ross, she's just trying to cover up her feelings by distracting herself with a new relationship. And personally, I feel like it's a bit like what Ross did with Emily; I think he just took advantage of the feeling of being able to love someone other than Rachel and acted too quickly.

Beatriz Rodrigues

Speaking from experience: kidney stones can be very painful. I was totally fine one moment and 5 minutes later I was in so much pain I was crawling on the floor, so my colleague had to call an ambulance ...

Christian Schoen

I agree with you that Emily's ask isn't totally unfair. Ross is immediately taking it as, he can never see Rachel again, which is unfair. He shouldn't have to totally cut her out of his life, but yeah, spending less time together, or only in a group setting is fair. They do seem to be framing it as no contact with Rachel though .

Wendy

PBS is the Public Broadcasting Service here in America. Your closest equivalent in Australia would be your ABC. Also yeah, Emily is 100% in the right at this point.

It was literally the same day. Rachel is wearing the same clothes. I think once Ross said he had to concentrate on Emily, and that he's still married, and not giving up, Rachel just needed to try to put the feelings away. It's like she needed to get it out,and once she said it, realized it was a dumb idea, so she's just trying to move on from it. Monica is the head chef at a restraunt. Remember she got the job, amd everyone hated her. She hired Joey to fire him, because she was too scared to stand up to the staff bullying her.

Wendy

Fonzie is from a 1970's popular TV show called Happy Days. They all k kw who he is. Rachel says "oh, I'm gonna be on the news," becasue she's indicating that Pheobe is going to steal on of the babies

"Chandler's a girl Chandler's a girl!"
