Demons Within Update 10 devlog: What to expect

Hey hey!

It's been a while, so I think it's more than time to keep you all updated with another devlog to explain how things are going! This is the first devlog of Update 10, so as per usual with those, today I'll try to cover a bit of how things are going, but also some of what we'll see in Update 10 as a whole! :D

This one took a little longer than usual. Usually, as soon as I post an update, I take like a day or two to breathe, then catch up on a lot of stuff that I usually left to do "after the update is done", which was the case this time as well. It took a little longer than usual, but I've already gone through planning and I'm almost 5k words into writing Update 10 as I write this, so the writing process has already started as well! All the content is defined, most of the art for this one is on its way to be finished, and everything is going well! :D

As per usual as well, I don't know just yet if there are any major new features (outside of the new story content) that I want to do that I'll be able to do and fit into Update 10, but I have some small improvements to the essence wheel and stuff that I really want to get out soon. In Update 9, we had some new essence wheel features like the bad ending indicator and as I messed with it, I had a few more ideas to make things clearer, so I'll try to at least push that out in this update if nothing else! I've also been wanting to make the Memorium accessible without having to go back to the Main Menu and that's been on my pending to-do list as well. We'll see how much I can get in without delaying this update very much! I also have some other small, wilder ideas cooking, but for now, I'll leave those cooking a bit more... :P

BUT! Without further ado, side content and current situation aside, I know you all are probably more interested in reading about what's going to be in Update 10, eh?

The end of Update 9 wasn't firm on what exactly is going to happen. In a way, that's good! I don't think it's a spoiler, however, to tell you all that Update 10 will involve the events that will happen in Unit 57-H's little camping trip. It's supposed to be a chill trip so they all can relax and Resnick can get some time to catch up with his brother, who he hadn't seen in quite a while. I'm happy to be able to say that every (soldier) from Unit 57-H will be there. You can expect to see plenty of interactions with Edwin, Ludwig and Sam, as well as Russel as we get through a day of chill. At least that's what Resnick is counting on!

This new update will feature a CG again, and once more, it's an ambitious one! This one is simpler in nature. It won't be as involved in the game as the CG in Update 9 was (I hope you all enjoyed the gimmicks there!). But! As usual, it was still ambitious. Blain is working hard on it and the previews are already going out. The final version will be out soon! I think the CG will be a perfect showcase of what this day will be. This update will also feature a whole bunch of new memories as we dig a little in Resnick's and Unit 57-H's past, heh.

I hope to be able to cover all of it, even the variation I'm planning to have towards the end, in Update 10. I predict it might be a little on the longer side and, because of that, maybe a little delayed, but I'll work hard to make sure that's not the case. I'm focusing on it 100% now!

As a final little bit of extra, I'm also finally getting to work on a few more assets to the game. Well... more like, invest. As Demons Within grows, I want to keep making it better and better. I've been working with an awesome composer to make the (technically second) original piece of music for Demons Within! I'll post that too on previews and talk more about it later, but I think it's gonna be really awesome! Please look forward to that too! :D
