[YT Edit] The Big Lebowski

Comments

34:22 Hendo: “Is he real?” (talking about the stranger). Us, Sam Elliott, and the Coen brothers: “No idea.”

33:56 You’re right, Hendo. Donnie missing that pin was foreshadowing, because every Donnie roll is a strike except that one.

32:00 The Dude never rolls. It’s true. It’s one of the quirkiest Lebowski facts.

27:27 This song is by The First Edition, and the lead singer was Kenny Rogers…the same Kenny Rogers who later became a country music icon. Lionel Ritchie wrote a song specifically thinking “I’m writing this for Kenny Rogers to sing.” The song “Lady” became a huge song for both of them. He also did several duets with Dolly Parton, and one of which was “Islands In the Stream”, which was a huge country/pop crossover hit at the time, and was weirdly reused in a 90s hip hop song called “Ghetto Superstar”…which was a huge hit and is still well respected in the hip hop community. Also, he had a popular chicken restaurant called “Kenny Rogers’ Roasters” that was featured on a Seinfeld episode. lol Anyway, yeah…he started out in a 60s acid rock hippy band. lol

22:14 Yeah, we have powdered creamer in the US. It’s usually only used in places that offer free coffee as a courtesy, or maybe the break room at work…so you can’t really get mad that the creamer sucks. Because they didn’t have to offer you free coffee in the first place.

Will Fly

13:31 Walter is talking about Lenin. Donnie thinks he’s talking about Lennon (John), and thinks he recognizes what Walter is saying as lyrics from the Beatles song “I Am the Walrus”.

I warn you guys, I’m going to be commenting A LOT. I’m drinking, and this is easily in my top three movies of all time. But I’ll be kind and keep my comments in one thread.

“Dude” was a derogatory term for a long time in the US. It was short for “Doodle”, as in “Yankee Doodle”…which was a way for the Brits to call Americans “Dandies” or “Yankee Doodle Dandies”. “Fops”…basically a derogatory term for homosexual (think of Dennis Reynolds in the Liberty Bell episode of “Sunny”). That’s why “The Stranger” (Sam Elliott) said nobody would self-apply it where he comes from. He’s a man of a time. He’s a cowboy.
